Welcoming Into Membership

Recognition of Ordinands
At this year's AMC, we wish to recognize the following individuals as we
anticipate their Ordination to Word and Sacrament at the Covenant Annual Meeting in June:

Financial and Real Estate Workshop

How confident do you feel about your church’s knowledge and practices around financial management? There are significant risks in the contemporary world of church management: ministerial compensation, employee payroll, tax reporting, budgeting, financial reporting, fraud, cyber-security risk and real estate, among others.

National Covenant Properties and the Midwest Conference are pleased to offer one-day financial workshops. Regional meetings have already been held in Kansas City and Denver, and attendees at these first two workshops included over 30 treasurers, financial secretaries and pastors.

The final session for 2017 will be held in Omaha on May 13, 9:00 am-3:30 pm, at Celebration Covenant Church. A $15 fee covers lunch and snacks and early bird registration is required to receive a copy of your church's financial dashboard and an assessment of internal controls (see flyer for details).

Early bird registration deadline:  April 21
General registration deadline:  May 8
Register here

We strongly encourage you to send representatives to this workshop, as it will be a fruitful investment for your church! For more information, contact the Midwest Conference office at office@midwestcovenant.org or 402-334-3020.

Workers Needed!

  • Replace support beams
  • Repair, texture, paint interior walls
  • Construct 16’ x 20’ shed
  • Construct covered entryway and ramp
  • Remake shed into a classroom
Do you have skills that would allow you to complete any of these activities? Do you have a desire to serve God with the talents he has given you? If so, there is an opportunity for you to give of your time and talents to help the Mountain Village Covenant Church in Alaska.

Mountain Village is a village of 883 people located on the Yukon River about 450 miles west of Anchorage. The extreme weather conditions cause movement of buildings, resulting in the need for constant repair. Since 2009, several teams from the Midwest Conference have traveled to Mountain Village, helping in various ways with construction and upkeep.

Pastor Marc Murchison and his wife, Elise, moved from Lanyon, Iowa, to Mountain Village in December of 2016. Pastor Marc has requested help in accomplishing these much-needed repairs. He has indicated that God is moving in Mountain Village and that the church has seen significant growth.

To read more about the Murchisons’ ministry in Mountain Village, visit their Facebook group, Support the Murchisons in Mountain Village, AK.

If you would like to learn more about possibly serving the Mountain Village church, contact Pastor Marc at murch777@earthlink.net or Gary Carlson at garycarl_50@yahoo.com or 785-455-3441.

From Our Superintendent

Friends,

If you have not yet registered for this year’s Annual Ministry Celebration, please do so today! Our goal is to have as many churches as possible represented as we engage in worship, learning and discussion around where we see God leading our conference over the next 10 years.

Over these past few months, Midwest Conference leaders have been engaged in vision conversations throughout the region, and we are excited about how new 10-year goals are stirring the hearts of our Midwest family. At the Annual Ministry Celebration, we will seek your input to help shape how we strategize around this God-sized vision—a vision that can only be reached when God shows up and our churches lean in to advance these goals. While churches are limited in the number of voting delegates they send, we would encourage your church to register as many guests as you’d like as we engage in this pivotal discussion.

It is such a joy to partner with you in furthering God’s kingdom. I look forward to our time together in Lenexa!

To God be the glory!

Tammy
