Premier League: Spurs take it to Chelsea, City and Liverpool roll while United falter

In a clash between two top London sides, Tottenham hosted Chelsea and won 3-1. Olivier Giroud scored a late consolation goal, but Spurs had done their damage with three strikes in the first hour. Dele Alli and Harry Kane both scored inside twenty minutes, and Son Heung-min sealed it with a third shortly after half-time. The win moved Tottenham above Chelsea into third in the league, two points ahead of the Blues and three behind Liverpool.

League-leaders Manchester City brought their A-game to London on Saturday, winning 4-0 at West Ham. David Silva and Raheem Sterling both had early goals, while Leroy Sane added two, including one in second-half stoppage time to add insult to injury for the Hammers. City lead Liverpool by two points at the top of the table.

Liverpool won 3-0 at Watford with three goals in the last 25 minutes. Mohamed Salah scored the eventual winner, leading the way for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino to add to the scoreline. Jordan Henderson was sent off with eight to play before Firmino's goal... Arsenal played a hard-fought match with Bournemouth but came away with three points on the road. After a first-half own goal, Joshua King equalized for the Cherries in first-half stoppage time. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang won it for the Gunners in the 67th minute... Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the lone goal of the game for Everton in their 1-0 victory over Cardiff... Manchester United and Crystal Palace drew 0-0.

MLS: Atlanta roll New York Red Bulls at home, Timbers and SKC draw

In the first leg of the conference finals, Atlanta United FC hosted New York Red Bulls in the east and got out to a convincing 3-0 lead on aggregate before the two will clash up north on Thursday. Josef Martinez scored in the first half, before Franco Escobar and Hector Daniel Villalba grabbed goals in the second half. Villalba's came deep into second half stoppage time.

Portland hosted Sporting Kansas City on the other side of the bracket and the game ended scoreless. The second leg will take place in Kansas City, Kansas on Thursday, with a trip to the MLS Cup Final on the line.

La Liga: Barcelona draw at Atletico, Real Madrid crushed

Barcelona travelled to the capital city and scored a 90th minute equalizer through Ousmane Dembele to salvage a point off Atletico Madrid. Diego Costa scored for Atleti in the 77th, but could not hold off the Catalan side. With the draw, Barcelona slip to second in the table, one point behind Sevilla, while Atletico Madrid sit at third, one point behind Barca.

Real Madrid went to Eibar and were outmatched, falling 3-0. Eibar opened the scoring in the 16th minute, and then had two in quick succession shortly after the break. Eibar are now ninth while Madrid are sixth.

Monday morning transfer talk

  • Eden Hazard has ruled out a move to Paris Saint-Germain, but has admitted he could leave Chelsea this summer.
  • Ousmane Dembele has asked Barcelona to allow him to leave the club in the January transfer window, and his exit could help facilitate Neymar's shock return.
  • Roma director of football Monchi says the club are yet to decide how to act over the future of winger Cengiz Under, amid reported interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.
  • Newcastle will look outside of England for transfer options this January, according to manager Rafa Benitez.
  • Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho doesn’t think Alexis Sanchez will seek to leave the club in January and has backed the forward to turn his form around.
  • Giuseppe Rossi is hoping for an opportunity to restart his career with either the New York Red Bulls or New York City FC, the former Italy international said on a podcast.
