Everybody eats, and food propels storytelling. I'm going county by county reporting stories about California and Californians through the lens of food, and I want you to come along.

California Foodways Wins National Award

I'm honored to share that California Foodways -- with media partners KQED's The California Report and the Food and Environment Reporting Network -- has won a national Edward R. Murrow award.

The Radio Television Digital News Association recognized last summer's story Grapes of Wrath: The Forgotten Filipino-Americans Who Led the '65 Delano Grape Strike for creative use of sound to tell a story.

At the Paulo Agbayani Village west of Delano, Roger Gadiano (L) and Alex Edillor hold a photo of grape strike leader Larry Itliong, whom they respectfully refer to as "The Man." (Henry A. Barrios/FERN)

Listen to the original piece here on the California Foodways website. You can also scroll through this list of all 2016 Murrow award winners.
There are 58 counties in California, and I'm going to get to as many as I can. Check out all the stories on  If you socialize on media, I'd love it if you followed the series on Twitter and Facebook, and feel free to share this email with friends.
