December News from...

FRAMES UP, FRAMES DOWN
Calling all cold-hardy volunteers! This Saturday, 12/3 two big things are happening on the farm: we're putting up the frame of our greenhouse that came down after Hurricane Sandy, and we're taking down the frame of our community tent as we prepare for winter and farm rearranging. We'd love your help! Email Saara (saara@added-value.org) so that we have a head count for gloves, tools, and warm beverages for the day.
The greenhouse in its former glory!
YEP ON LOCATION
Our youth farmers were out representing Red Hook and Added Value all over this fall - we did a glorious fall hike, cooked up some treats at a RH Rec Center event, and participated in two incredible conferences: the Black Urban Farmers Conference at Harlem Renaissance HS and the Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Working Group conference in New Haven, CT. Check out Nelly's reportback from NESAWG for more.

GREENS GLEAN
You wouldn't believe the gorgeous leafy greens and root veggies we still have growing in the fields: kale, rainbow chard, collards, salad mixes, carrots, radishes, and more. Since our markets are done, we need you to COME AND HARVEST! Saturday, 11/17, 10am-12pm - take all you can carry! We'd hate to see good food go to waste so please invite anyone and everyone who likes fresh veggies. No need to RSVP but please do bring bags.

THANK YOU INTERNS
Our hyper productive fall was thanks in part to our stellar college interns: Nina Naghshineh, a senior at NYU, and Katelyn Kennedy, a senior at Hunter College. Nina was our school workshop co-leader extraordinaire, and Katelyn was our CSA super star. We are so thankful for all the positive energy, hard work, and creativity they brought  to the farms and wish them the best as they near graduation!
