THE LAST SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
CHRIST THE KING SUNDAY

SOUP’S ON!
MINISTRY OFFERS ‘LOVE.’ IN A BOWL

It’s no secret that St. Paul’s loves to feed people. Now this long-standing tradition has grown to include a soup ministry for parishioners in need of a warming meal during illness or surgery recovery, after the arrival of a child, following a death in the family, or other challenging times.

Soup’s On! began quietly last winter during the coronavirus surge when Deacon Laura Siriani realized that many church members needed a healthy meal safely delivered to their doorsteps. Laura tapped Kathy Chai to lead the effort. Several folks responded to the newsletter notice calling for volunteers, recipes were selected and “LOVE.” logo labels were printed.

This loving ministry took off. Soup was delivered, more cooking days were scheduled and now the bounty is stowed in St. Paul’s freezer, ready for what health officials say may be a severe cold and flu season, combined with the ongoing presence of COVID.

“It’s extremely satisfying. I love to cook and so does everybody in the group,” Kathy says.
The soups are prepped, cooked, and packaged in St. Paul’s safety-certified kitchen under the same health guidelines required for Sunday Supper. A variety of selections are usually available, including vegan options like a gently spiced lentil Thai chili with coconut milk, which has received rave reviews. Other Soups On! specialties include three-bean chili and stuffed cabbage soup. Even the surplus of vegetables from Gordon’s Garden have made it into the mix.

The Soup’s On team works together to fill the freezer with a variety of soup for those
in need of a bit of a bit of nourishment and comfort.

More volunteers and supplies are welcomed, as more cooking days will likely be scheduled this winter. The team gathers on weekdays for the cooking, all of which must be done in the St. Paul’s kitchen. Contact Kathy at ktc1@cox.net if you’d like to learn how you can participate.

Soup Deliverers Needed
We’re looking for volunteers who can make occasional soup deliveries. If that’s you, please email adminstrator@stpauls.org with your name, contact information and the days that you could be available to help. Pick up will be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. here at St. Paul’s and soup must be delivered while still frozen.

And If You Need Soup
If you or someone in your family find yourself in need of a Soup’s On! meal prepared with love, please contact the office or email administrator@stpauls.org.

PRAYERS

WE PRAY

May all I say and all I think
be in harmony with thee,
God within me,
God beyond me,
maker of the trees.
           - Chinook prayer, Pacific Northwest Coast

We pray for …
Those who are afraid, lost, and in the midst of turmoil of spirit and mind as we remember those in need of God's healing presence, in illness, grief, and during challenging times.

Members of our parish who are recovering from surgery, undergoing extended treatment, expecting new life, traveling, raising families, caregiving, experiencing addiction, or in financial difficulty.

Our teachers, students, staff, vestry and other leaders, and our preschool community.

Give them courage and strength during the days ahead; may they know your love and grace.

Gracious God, we entrust all who are dear to us to your never-failing care and love. Guide us so that we may reflect your love and grace to the world.
Amen.

This week we pray for …
The following members of our parish: Hannah Morgan, Sofia Caban and Jeff Morgan, Lois Moshenko, Melanie Nabahani, Patty and Gilbert Narvaez and Alma and Thomas Obkircher.
