New Forecasted USAID Opportunities

In February FY18, USAID added up to $1.39 billion in anticipated funding opportunities to the Mission Forecast. A breakdown of the newly forecasted  funding opportunities is included below.
Nigeria anticipates $100-$300M of funding in Global Health in the form of a cooperative agreement. The Social Services for AIDS-affected Orphans, Vulnerable Children, and Adolescents  award aims to provide assistance to children and adolescents diagnosed with AIDS.

Zimbabwe is forecasted to receive a $100-300M award in the form of a cooperative agreement in the Global Health sector. The Biomedical HIV Prevention for Epidemic Control" or BPEC award is to follow on to the PSI SPSS activity, focusing on HIV biomedical prevention strategies including voluntary medical male circumcision, pre-exposure prophylaxis, condom usage, targeting key populations and evidence generation and data for decision-making.
Uganda is forcasted to recieve two seperate awards. The first is forecasted to be a $50-100M contract for the USAID/Uganda Learning Activity  program. This is intended to strengthen the performance of USAID/Uganda and its Implementing Partners in collaborating, learning and adapting in order to improve the relevance, quality and sustainability of USAID-supported contributions to Uganda’s development. The second forecasted funding opportunity is a $25-50M contract in the Global Health sector. The Uganda Health Systems Strengthening (UHSS) program is aiming to  improve the functionality of the Ugandan health systems by focusing on key public and private sector institutions and community structures at national, district, facility, and community levels. As USAID Uganda’s flagship health systems strengthening activity, UHSS will maximize the impact of investments made by the Government of Uganda (GoU), the United States Government (USG), and other donors in the sector. This will be achieved by improving leadership and accountability for results, increasing domestic health financing and efficient use of key health resources; and increasing citizen participation and engagement.
Afghanistan anticipates a $50-$100M award in the Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment sector. The cooperative agreement is a Promote Scholarship Endowment that aims to fund higher education scholarships for qualified Afghan women in perpetuity. The endowment will enhance women’s empowerment and gender equity by assisting Afghan women in obtaining a university or graduate education, better enabling them to serve in positions of influence in the public and private sectors. The endowment merges with other Promote components to create a full suite of empowerment activities, supporting women from the beginning of their higher education through attaining a professional position. Establishing a permanent endowment also preserves empowerment successes by sustaining long-term educational assistance.

Egypt is forecasted to receive two contracts of $25-$50M. The first contract is in the Economic Growth and Trade sector for a Economic Security, Regional Business, and Trade Development project which is intending to assist the government of Egypt undertake economic reforms, and to assist in capacity building to take full advantage of new trade opportunities created by those reforms.  The project aims to improve bilateral trade flows with trading partners, increase trade and export earnings, and attract business and investment to Egypt. The second anticipated opportunity is Feed the Future Egypt Value Added Solutions in the Agriculture and Food Security sector.
Summary of all new opportunities announced are in the February FY18 USAID Mission Forecast.
