Like a Rolling Stone: NZYC join legends of Rock
The most spectacular event in Choirs Aotearoa’s 2014 calendar was the invitation to 20 members of the NZ Youth Choir to appear on stage with the Rolling Stones at their Mt Smart concert in November. The popular number 'You can’t always get what you want' from the Rolling Stones 1969 album Let it Bleed, performed on the original soundtrack by the London Bach Choir, was the encore at the concert.

The NZ Youth Choir’s involvement had to be kept strictly secret and, when the performance was postponed from its original date in April 2014, the singers had to hold their tongues for another seven months until the night of the concert! As choir member Natasha Wilson said on the 'Breakfast' TV interview "… we were bursting by the time of the concert." Appearing in front of 37,000 Stones fans was an extraordinary and exciting experience for these young singers, and they were warmly applauded by the crowd.

Congratulations to Music Director (and NZCF Board Member) David Squire and the Choirs Aotearoa team!
