Washington Sea Grant is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. This section highlights a monthly resource to deepen our understanding of how social justice, marine science, and policy intersect.

At our recent WSG staff retreat, we workshopped how to meaningfully center DEI in our everyday work. This included brainstorming updates to our DEI roadmap and learning about gracious spaces that courageously allow us to learn from each other.

A mere mollusk topped the charts for our most engaged social media content this month. NOAA Science Camp staff joined Seattle Aquarium Beach Naturalist Daoud Miller as he explained the microscopic mystery of their egg casing during low tide this summer.

Miller’s enthusiastic explanation is an example of the kind of science literacy taught at NOAA Science Camp events. Partnerships with organizations like Seattle Aquarium are invaluable to WSG’s work, especially as our team continues to pivot with outreach in the pandemic.
