Across Washington Sea Grant’s social media channels, our followers celebrated a historic moment for the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community. This summer, they moved 33 tons of rock to begin building a clam garden.
Clam gardening is an Indigenous mariculture practice that is about 3,500 years old. The harvested shellfish are traditional foods that are nutritious and feed relationships between people and places.
