Makes Fern Street Circus Possible

Funder Highlights

Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office
The history of Fern Street Circus is thoroughly tied to Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office, starting in 1993 and our first after-school program. Fern Street’s appearances at ArtSplash in Carlsbad – for several years – were all funded in part by their grants, including $2,500 from Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office in 2014. The grant enabled Fern Street Circus to play at ArtSplash this past September, a real joy. We created parades with Studio 2 Artists and San Diego Guild of Puppetry, helping enliven this wondrous arts event. Fern Street Circus at ArtSplash was the kick-off event for our 25th Anniversary Neighborhood Tour.
We thank Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office for long-time support of Fern Street Circus and for enriching Carlsbad with so much art through its granta programs, arts education and public art programs, and the magnificent TGIF Concerts in the Parks.
UPS Store 0400
Special thanks to Dennis Stein and his six UPS Stores for their in-kind donation of $1,000 worth of printing. Thanks to their very fast turnaround, we were able to print flyers, programs, and 1-page color development pieces on card stock.

Dennis is a great community asset in North Park, and a vibrant presence in his neighborhoods.
Again, thank you, Dennis Stein and The UPS Stores in North Park, Kensington, Mira Mesa, U.T.C., La Jolla, and Chula Vista for
supporting Fern Street Circus.

Arimaw Productions
Michael Wulffhart has been so generous to Fern Street Circus in our revival, donating to us a ring curb, sidewalls, curtains, performance flags, a floor cloth, and loads of circus equipment which originally came from Fern Street. We particularly appreciate equipment made by Pop Canestrelli.
Michael began his distinguished theatrical career performing mime and magic on some of the most famous streets in the world (in England, Israel, South Africa and the United States), and with San Francisco Mime Troupe. He serves as resident director for the World Famous San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, developing, writing, and performing in many, many productions.

We thank and honor Mr. Wulffhart and Arimaw Productions for support and amazing donations!

Igor Arefiev
Through American Youth Circus Organization (AYCO), Igor Arefiev sent out a notice to youth circuses around the United States that he had hire wire equipment he wanted to donate from Las Vegas.  We accepted his generous offer.
Quite an amazing lot of equipment in a beautifully constructed box on heavy casters: a full balance pole, platform, wires, come-alongs, and lots of cables and shackles. Our tightwire coach/performer, Erica Saben, using it in our after-school program and show. In the meantime, we use it on occasion with our kids and in individual training.
Mr. Arefiev is head coach of Cirque du Soleil’s show, Dralion, and also worked on Cirque’s Alegria and Criss Angel’s BeLIEve. As a world-renowned high wire artist, he performed with Cirque’s La Nouba show, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and Moscow Circus.
Thank you, Igor, for bringing us this great tightwire equipment, which will benefit Fern Street Circus for a long, long time.
