Our Choir Family Mourns the Loss of Lij Taylor

Dear OCC Family,

Music sets our emotions free sometimes.  When we feel happiness, sadness, love, courage, weakness, adventurous, thankful, hopeful... there is music that brings these emotions to a higher level, releases that feeling and inspires you to live in the moment which helps to set that emotion free.  Music helps us through stormy times, it enhances our joy of the happy moments in our lives, it brings back memories of times in our lives that meant so much. To feel a song as it is sung by a choir is to be in a moment with all the others who are hearing the song where you share a connection and feel a sense of community. The same goes for singing a song with a choir and the closeness you feel with that community.

Most of you may have heard that we lost a Boychoir member in a car accident the Thursday of Spring Break. Elijah (Lij) Taylor passed away from serious injuries, his dad Alden suffered serious injuries as well as his brother Quinlan. Amary, Lij’s mom, was not in the car at the time of the accident. Our collective hearts from Oregon Childrens Choir are heavy with sympathy in finding out about the death of Lij. Oregon Children's Choir and Lij's choir friends are hoping for strength, healing and peace to come to the Taylor family.

We celebrate Lij’s life and share in the music he made as a community.  OCC is working on starting a scholarship foundation in Lij’s name to celebrate his life through sharing music. Music heals and transforms.
