Application Period Begins for BMKF Scholarships!

The Bo M. Karlsson Foundation scholarship season has officially begun! In addition to renewing our commitment to seven current scholars continuing their studies, we will also award new undergraduate scholarships to five Nepalese young women, including a Law Degree Scholarship, a Sherpa Teacher Scholarship, and three others. As always, our scholars are selected based on their academic merit, financial need, persistence, desire to help others, and leadership potential.

To better align with Nepal’s academic calendar, our application period has moved from spring to fall. In a truly international effort, our education committee in the U.S., led by committee chair Erin Inclán, will work with our Nepal Board and program coordinator Sabita Ghising, to evaluate transcripts and applications. Erin said of our prospective scholars,“We’re looking for academically-gifted candidates who demonstrate clear career goals and a passion for making a difference in their communities and country—especially for other women.” In the 11 years BMKF has been awarding scholarships, there has never been a shortage of extremely talented and deserving young women seeking higher education. Our selection team sure has their work cut out for them again this year!

Do you know a great young woman that sounds like a perfect fit for one of our scholarships? Let her know that all transcripts, recommendations, and essays must be submitted by November 10. Recipients will be announced in early December.

Do you want to be a part of the inspiring and fulfilling process of empowering young women in Nepal? Here are a couple of great ways to do it!

Volunteer with our education committee! We’re looking for a great group of volunteers to help select our next round of scholars by reviewing applications. It is an amazing feeling to read the powerful essays of these young women and see their goals become a reality. Contact Erin at if you’re interested!

Sponsor a student! None of our great work could be done without the generosity of our sponsors. Whether you sponsor a scholar’s tuition, or simply want to make a contribution, the investment you make will impact these young women and their communities for the rest of their lives. Contact Sonnia Karlsson at for more information.
