World Trails Day
Saturday June 4, 2022
In 2016 at the close of the World Trails Conference in Tottori, Japan, it was agreed by delegates from some 35 plus countries to create a global day celebrating trails around the world.

Historically trail managers across North America and Europe have celebrated National Trails Day and International Trails Day around this time of year. Without infringing on these initiative and opening up a global space for celebrating trails and to give a clear message about the value of trails and the people who look after them we have launched World Trails Day.

In June 2021 the World Trails Network co-hosted a G7 World Trails Summit which was attended by over 200 participants across five continents. At the meeting it was agreed that we would pursue international recognition of the first Saturday in June as World Trails Day by the UN.

The focus of World Trails Day may take many forms, but one key one is the volunteers who help create and maintain trails around the world.

To read more about how this day came about and for ideas of how to celebrate it in your community, read our blog here.

  • DATE: June 4, 2022
  • LOCATION: Your local trail, trail organization,
  • PURPOSE: Celebrate trails and those who volunteer to keep them open and loved.
