The Shifts in Mathematics Education

This is a quick video of Dan Meyer giving a talk at TEDxNYED about mathematics instruction.  This video is a great way to start a conversation about the changes in instruction needed to address the Common Core State Standards.
Upcoming at Kent ISD
 
Kassia Wedekind will be at Kent ISD on October 17th from 8:00 to 3:30.  The PD will address Building Mathematical Communities in Kindergarten.  If you would like information on the opportunity, click on the Math Exchanges book to the left!  
University of Michigan School of Education K-5 Mathematics Professional Development offered at Kent ISD!  The 10 sessions will take place between October 6th and March 2nd.  Click on the button for more information!

We will be running a series of book studies on the very popular book for Elementary Mathematics Instruction.  We will offer a K-2 group and a 3-5 group.  If you are interested in the opportunity to join area educators in a study of best practice, keep an eye on the PD Hub for the finalized versions of the offering.  If you have questions, send and email!

Classroom Learning Labs
 
If you (or know someone you know) has an interest viewing other area educators actually teaching mathematics, you have found what you are looking for!  The Classroom Learning Labs are an amazing way to talk/reflect with area teachers on best practice by viewing teachers in action.  Click the button below to send an email and get information on being involved.

Digital Tools in the Mathematics Classroom

This PD on October 28th at Kent Innovation High School will be one where attendees will gain exposure to digital tools that can be used in the math classroom.  The course will show in the PD Hub for registration very soon.  If you have questions, feel free to send and email!
