Brucellosis Vaccine Prize Competition gathers momentum

Last month GALVmed along with our partner AgResults’ launched the US $30 million Brucellosis Vaccine Prize Competition at the International Brucellosis Research Conference in India. A survey of the 200 delegates confirmed the urgent need for a new Brucellosis vaccine, with many suggesting they would enter the competition.

If you know someone at an organisation who may be interested, please help us share the news of this exciting initiative, aimed at transforming the lives of 600 million people in developing countries whose livelihoods depend on livestock.

1st PC vaccine launched in India

The innovative vaccine technology developed by Professor Marshall Lightowlers at the University of Melbourne is now for sale in India through Indian Immunological Limited.

IIL, a GALVmed partner, released the vaccine, branded Cysvax, at a Pig Expo in north-east India on the 29 November.

The registration and launch of the vaccine, which protects against porcine cysticercosis, is a major step towards the integrated control of the prevalent human disease - cysticercosis/neurocysticercosis, which can cause epilepsy. In India alone, more than 10 million people suffer from epilepsy, creating an economic burden estimated at US $1.7 billion per year.

Over 65 participants attended the workshop from all regions across Rwanda and interest in the vaccine, particularly from farmers present, was immense.
