GALVmed celebrates World Veterinary Day on Saturday

World Veterinary Day will be held this Saturday (30th April) and this year's theme is "Continuing education with a one health focus". To celebrate the day and the veterinarians who help make our work possible, we've interviewed some veterinarians, vaccinators and animal health technicians supporting our projects in East Africa.

1,000 cattle expected to be vaccinated on World Veterinary Day

GALVmed will be attending the Kenya Veterinary Association (KVA) conference from 27-30 April. It is expected that around 10,000 farmers will attend to have their livestock vaccinated across various sites throughout Meru County, Kenya.

The animals will be examined and vaccinated for East Coast Fever (ECF) and Newcastle Disease (ND). GALVmed partners SIDAI and VETAID will be delivering 1,000 ECF vaccines and AWAPH will be administering the ND vaccine on the day.
The inaugural World Animal Vaccination Day was launched on 20th April. It promotes the importance of vaccination in all animals. More than 100 animal diseases can be prevented through vaccination, helping to protect many species.

The day was launched by HealthforAnimals and the World Veterinary Association.
