Welcome to Amigos' January Newsletter
Happy New Year! January is a momentous month for 40 young people as they embark on a year of vocational training and personal development at Kira Farm Development Centre.

Be encouraged by the story of Agnes (pictured above) who, just a short time ago, was a nervous new trainee - today Agnes is earning good money thanks to the tailoring skills she learnt at Kira, she can pay for her son to go to school, and she is passing on her new skills in conservation farming to a 30-strong group in her community. And there's more! Agnes has been appointed by the local council to campaign for gender equality. Remarkable! You can read her full story here

Here's to 2017 being an exciting year of change and growth for us all! Big thanks for all of your support, none of this would be possible without you.
Team Amigos

Meet the new trainees!

Phil has been in Uganda meeting all of the new trainees and taking down their profiles. Many were surprised by the stairs in the guesthouse - they had never seen a staircase before let alone attempted to ascend one. There was shaky laughter all round as they headed for the first floor!

Throughout the course of the year the trainees will have their eyes opened to the possibilities in the world. Having never left their home village many think it's normal to sleep on a dirt floor with no blanket. At Kira they discover there is a better way to live and are given the skills, knowledge and confidence to lift themselves and their families out of poverty

A successful appeal!

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Amigos Christmas Appeal - we raised over £3500 to provide training in conservation farming for mums in rural Uganda! This will enable mothers to feed their children properly and send them to school. We really appreciate the difference you have made in the lives of these vulnerable people.

A little bundle of joy

Josh and Mary, who run Kira Farm Development Centre, recently welcomed their first child into the world - the very handsome little Ethan! Congratulations guys!

4000 lives changed a day

Thanks to some very kind supporters in the UK, the Peers, we have been able to install a borehole in Ajulu, Orom (northern Uganda). This borehole will serve 5 villages with an average of 800 people per village. This means around 4000 people are having their lives changed daily thanks to the generosity of one couple. Amazing!

We would love to install more boreholes in these dry and remote places, do get in touch if you are interested in finding out more - info@amigos.org.uk

Christmas shopping

Thank you to all the kind sponsors who gave gifts at Christmas to the children they are supporting. These children in Wakiso have just been Christmas shopping and bought beds, blankets, mattresses, school bags and much more!

You could be sitting on a golden egg!

Do you work for a business or organisation that has a charitable foundation? There are thousands of businesses in the UK (and many more abroad) with the potential to provide funding to Amigos, however we need to know someone 'on the inside' to apply. Unsolicited applications are frequently not accepted.
If your business or organisation has a foundation we would love to hear from you. We'll do all the legwork, we just need a recommendation :) Call
01271 377 664 or email rachel@amigos.org.uk if you think you can help.

THANK YOU!

As we embark on another year we want to thank all of our supporters. Because of you we are able to come alongside people in Uganda and provide them with the skills and knowledge to transform their lives.
