Happy Christmas from Amigos!

Thank you so much for the wonderful support you have provided throughout 2016. As part of Team Amigos, you have helped impact the lives of 20,000 people in Uganda through providing access to clean water, education, and training in vocational skills and conservation farming. Enjoy looking back over the year and seeing how it all happened!
JANUARY - 40 nervous young people flooded into Kira Farm Development Centre. Many had experienced the horrors of war and all had grown up in extreme poverty. Over the next 12 months they healed from emotional scars, grew in confidence and acquired practical skills to create a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.
FEBRUARY -  7 new conservation farming groups were launched in northern Uganda (making a total of 27), enabling hungry families to increase their crop yields. After the first harvest 98% reaped twice as many crops than ever before. Imagine that!
MARCH - We began revising our Child Sponsorship programme to work through local churches and provide training for caregivers in business skills so they can set up small enterprises and bring an income into their households. Over time this means families won't need to depend on charity, but can support themselves and enjoy a life of dignity and success, reaping the rewards of their own hard work. This new approach means many more children and families can be helped through the programme.
APRIL - Kira Farm Development Centre hosted a five day workshop with 30 farming group leaders and pastors from northern Uganda, focusing on effective leadership, conflict resolution, time management and business skills.
MAY - Stories began filtering through on the Kira Farm trainees who graduated just five months earlier. Jessica, 20, spent her childhood working as a house girl, enduring hard physical labour with little to eat. Since graduating she has set up a successful tailoring business, she is training other vulnerable young girls, and is paying for her siblings to go to school.' Read Jessica's story here
JUNE - Moringa saplings, grown by Kira Farm trainees, were distributed in northern Uganda to help broaden the diet of malnourished children. Moringa is a powerhouse of nutrients rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, potassium, iron and protein.
JULY - Students from North Devon schools, Braunton Academy and South Molton Community College, visited Uganda for a life-changing experience. Construction also began of two boreholes in Masindi to provide 4000 people with clean water.
AUGUST - We published our Annual Review, packed with stories about communities who have been empowered to lift themselves out of poverty.
I am Sanon: This is my story
SEPTEMBER - North Devon school students put together this fantastic short film on Kira Farm graduate, Sanon.
OCTOBER - Two new boreholes, generously donated by Amigos' supporters, began construction in northern Uganda in areas where women and children spend hours a day fetching water. The new boreholes mean women will have time to farm and run small businesses, and children will be able to get to school on time. A total of four boreholes have been constructed this year, providing 8000 people with access to clean water.
NOVEMBER - We launched our first ever 2 minute film explaining who we are, what we do and why!
DECEMBER - We launched our annual Christmas Appeal A big thank you to everyone who has already donated, so far we have raised nearly £2000 and hope in the remaining weeks we will reach our target of £5000 to provide farming training for mothers so they are able to feed their children. We really appreciate your generosity and kindness!
Thank you once again for your commitment and support throughout 2016. Have a wonderful Christmas from all at Amigos!
