Introducing Idan Cohen!

We are so thrilled to welcome Guest Artist, Idan Cohen to WCD! Cohen has been in studio at WCD workshopping, creating, and setting a new work titled Looking Glass

Cohen connected to WCD by way of a public call to artists and was selected as a Guest Artist in Residence by a panel.

Born and raised in Israel, Kibbutz Mizra, Cohen first trained as a classical piano player. At the young age of 20, he joined the world-renowned Kibbutz Dance Company where he danced for many seasons and toured extensively.

Since 2017, Cohen has been based both in Vancouver &  Israel.
He holds a BA and an MFA in choreography from the
Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.

A unique creator with a celebrated career, the socialist community of the Kibbutz, Cohen’s lived experience in the middle east and his queer perspective have had a significant influence on his artistic life and work. Cohen's work is multi-disciplinary and his vision, passion, and care are anticipated to inspire and invigorate.

Season Highlights

As we near the end of the calendar year, we want to take a moment and share some of our 2022/23 season highlights, thus far!

In September, we were back on site for class and rehearsals preparing for our in-person Season Launch.

We launched our new season showcasing seven Winnipeg-based dancers in two works, in between here and now and Covid Sonata. Thanks so much to everyone who joined us!

In September and October, we participated in five Culture Days events and performed in four locations. A total of sixteen dancers performed at the Forks, Stephen Juba Park, and Old Market Square!

In October, we also concluded a four & half week project for emerging dancers culminating in a two-show run of Flight Paths. Flight Paths featured ten dancers in three different works - Lost, The Space In Between, and Proximity.

In November, we opened our subscription series show with four performances of Serpentine by Daina Ashbee.

This month we are in studio with an ensemble of six dancers working on a new creation with Guest Artist, Idan Cohen!

So far this season, we have also programmed 39 professional classes, one three-hour creative workshop, and one Artist Talk.

Thanks so much to everyone who has already joined us for our programming and we hope to see you at our next show; February 9 - 12, 2023 at
The Rachel Browne Theatre
!
