The crane is up, and One Beale is (almost) ready to rock ‘n’ roll!

A crane stands tall on the downtown Memphis skyline, proclaiming the long-awaited One Beale development is now under construction, moving forward, and ready to fulfill its position on the vibrant Memphis riverfront.

It was only thirteen months ago that Chance Carlisle, CEO of Carlisle Corporation, discussed the power of his father’s dream to transform downtown by connecting Beale Street to the Memphis riverfront. On August 20, One Beale passed a major milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony hosted by Carlisle and attended by city dignitaries and partners working on the current $150 million-dollar project.

The Hyatt Centric at One Beale will introduce a new and distinct lifestyle hotel experience to the residents and visitors of Memphis. HBG Design, Memphis/San Diego, is the architect and interior designer for the Hyatt Centric project. “Within the walls of Hyatt Centric Beale Street Memphis, guests will find a social space to connect with others and a launch pad to go out and explore all that the community has to offer,” said Stephen Kallaher, vice president, development, Hyatt.
“Hyatt Centric’s location at Front and Beale is one of the most prominent sites in Memphis,” said Mark Weaver, FAIA, Principal, HBG Design. “We designed the Hyatt Centric around the city’s music and river heritage, focusing on placemaking design for its unique setting.”

Memphis-based HBG Design is a Top 5 nationally ranked hospitality design firm who works with a number of high-profile brands to help define and create distinctive design experiences at their properties.

The full-service, 7-story Hyatt Centric development will include 227 guest rooms, a new riverfront restaurant, conference and meeting space, an outdoor pool plaza and rooftop lounge with amazing views of downtown Memphis, famed Beale Street and the Mississippi River, imparting a truly distinctive four-star experience for guests.

Unique exterior design features include metal panels and staggered windows on each floor, which viewed from afar suggest music notes on sheet music, symbolic of the city’s musical heritage.
Colored, neon lighting will frame many of the windows facing Front and Beale streets. HBG Design’s lighting concept is designed to link the vibrant lights and movement of Beale Street with the popular light installations on the Hernando DeSoto and Big River Crossing (Harahan) bridges. “There will be a real spectacular light show at night,” Weaver said. “The lighting will emulate the bridge show, changing colors and moving along the hotel façade."

The ground floor elevation is wrapped in glass panels allowing an active flow of Beale Street entertainment through to the hotel check-in desk and the prominently located lobby bar and ground floor restaurant. Outdoor seating faces the Front and Beale street level action. The ground floor’s south side will look out to the hotel’s outside pool and courtyard. A rooftop whisky bar will offer guests a sophisticated Memphis vibe with unencumbered views of the mighty Mississippi River.
HBG Design will also be renovating the historic Ellis Machine Shops building, transforming it into 14,000 square feet of events and meeting spaces. This industrial building was the site of a machine shop that produced propellers and equipment for riverboats.

When complete, One Beale will serve as a gateway to the sports and entertainment district of Beale Street, connecting Memphis’ riverfront to one of America’s most iconic streets.

With Phase 1 (the Landing Residences) and Phase 2 (the Hyatt Centric) under construction, Carlisle and its teams are working to finalize the details surrounding Phases 3, 4 and 5.
With expectations for world-class accommodations, new Beale Street entertainment options and a design distinctly in keeping with Memphis’ inimitable expression of heritage, we look forward to seeing the impact One Beale creates in downtown Memphis upon its late 2020 opening.
