Welcome to the TeamHARE 15/16 Newsletter

With the first two months of 2016 out of the way, the manufacturing of our new car is starting to gain momentum. Chassis materials have been delivered and are either out for laser cutting or bending, and we hope to remain on track to start the assembly as soon as it returns.

The rebuild of what is likely to be this year’s race engine is under way and drawings have been sent to our long term sponsors Tri-Cast for the manufacturing of our suspension components. Make sure to keep track of our progress on our social media channels!

It’s official! Team HARE will be returning to Formula Student Spain this year; one of only two UK teams participating and we hope for a repeat of the Team’s 2013 success. Alongside this we will also be competing in Formula Student East in Hungary and of course our home event at FSUK, Silverstone. With three events in total, 2016 promises to be one of the busiest seasons the Team have had in recent years. Exciting stuff!
IMechE Formula Student in the region
The University played host to this year’s Yorkshire Formula Student evening, bigger than ever, the night was a huge success. Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam, Leeds and Hull all attended with their cars to join HARE-15 on display. We were also joined by guests from the University of Sunderland, who made a brief appearance at the end of the presentations.

The Team took HARE-15 up to Crossland Moor Airfield for the first shakedown of the year last Wednesday. Luckily, the snowy conditions didn't deteriorate and the Team were able to make the most of quite a clear and sunny afternoon up on the Moors. Team Leader Tom took to the runway initially and the Team ran several running checks on the car throughout the day; validating their work on both the shifter system as well as the newly installed lightweight driveshafts. To the teams delight, they suffered no real issues with the car and simply had to re-pressurize the on-board shifting system on the day. For the final few runs of the day, new driver Ollie got a chance to drive and his racing experience clearly showed as it took him no time to get to grips with the car.

Thorite Visit

Wednesday 9th March saw Richard Vaughan and Stephen Wright from one of our top sponsors Thorite visit us. It was great to see their enthusiasm about the whole Formula Student enterprise and they were keen to take a look at our cars both old and new. They also came over to deliver the products which they had kindly offered the Team as sponsorship. This included a new high power compressor system, a full air tool kit to be used when dealing with our pneumatic shifting system, and even a space on one of their fantastic training courses. We can’t thank them enough for their generosity and we are looking forward to working with them again in the future!
Charity Run

Finally, Team Leader Tom, took on the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust on 13/03/16. Running with a friend they have so far raised around £630 for this great cause, and managed to complete the run in 2 hours! Donations are still welcome though and if you would like to make one then follow the link: JustGiving page...
