Welcome to the first 2017-18 HudRail Newsletter!

First and foremost, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate last year’s team on achieving a very respectable 3rd place overall in the competition at Stapleford in June 2017. We wish them every success in the future as they move on from their studies and embark on their careers.

This year’s Team (pictured below) are pleased to be taking part in the competition, and hope to live up to - if not exceed - the success of our predecessors. This year we plan to make a number of improvements to the HudRail locomotive in the hopes of enhancing its performance, particularly in competition areas such as the Energy Recovery Challenge and the Noise Challenge.

Sponsorship

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the companies who generously sponsored the Team during the 2016-17 season. We will be making contact with potential sponsors throughout the year, including previous sponsors and looking to gain any new.

If you would be interested in sponsoring the team this year, then please send us an email, or contact us via our social media pages.
Developments

Work has already begun within the HudRail lab; the Team have deconstructed last year’s build with the aim to test the various subsystems. In addition to this, a number of undergraduate students have begun work on their final year dissertation projects relating to these various subsystems and their future development. With their input, the Team is assessing the most suitable options for implementation within this year’s locomotive design.
