NK Missions Newsletter

A lot has been going on since our last update. Here are some things we are excited to share with you. In March,  we started a new English Program for North Korean refugee students who are in the public school system. These students face unique challenges and we are so happy to come alongside them in their journey. We are blessed to be serving with two new missionary couples this year who have a similar burden. In February, we celebrated with nine Jangdaehyun School seniors as they graduated. Sadly, we must say goodbye to Hannah Leachmann as she moves on to start her new life as a married woman!

Hannah is completing her first year as an NK Missions teacher at Jangdaehyun School. Hannah and Sunkyo Kim will be married on June 8th, at Sooyoungro Church. Lou will have the privilege of performing the ceremony! We are sad to see her go, but we are so excited about this next chapter in her life.
Missionary Couples
Wayne and Duckeun Furrie
Lewis and Els Codington
We began this new semester (March 2019) serving with two new missionary couples,

Wayne and Duckeun met while both were studying in China. They taught English and quietly shared the gospel to those in their community. They have joined us in the newly launched English Program and have jumped right in. They are making a huge difference in the lives of the students. Since they both speak Chinese, they are a big help with Chinese speaking students. We are grateful for them and look forward to seeing how God continues to use them in the lives of these precious young people.

Lewis and Els were both missionaries in China for many years. They moved from China to South Korea just before China began to apply pressure on Christian missionaries. They left China with the burden to serve North Korean refugee students. By the wonderful providence of God, we met last year. They live just minutes from our partner school, Yeongmyung School in Seoul. They began teaching there this March, and have already been fruitful in their work at the school.

We are grateful to know these wonderful couples and are so grateful for the gift they are to so many.
This Easter, we combined our two programs for some Easter fun, bringing Jangdaehyun School students together with our new English Program students. Wayne taught about how Americans traditionally celebrate Easter. We enjoyed egg coloring and a 300 egg, hunt. Special thanks to Mrs. Pratt's co-op class, at Redeeming Grace Church in Virginia. Their donations made this event possible. For many of these North Korean students, it was the first time participating in anything like this.
We concluded the event with a message on the Christian meaning of Easter and a delicious chicken sandwich dinner! It was wonderful seeing these students from both programs interacting with one another and having fun. We hope to bring them together again for future programs.
The class of 2019!
In February, Jangdaehyun School held it's graduation. You can't imagine how proud we were of the graduating students! Many of them were freshmen when we started teaching at the school. We are so thankful for the relationships we have built with these special students. We will follow them as they launch out into universities and careers. We will be sure to keep you updated on their progress from time to time.
We cannot thank you enough for your love and support. We are so very grateful. You're making a difference in the lives of these precious students, many of whom are overcoming horrific events in their lives and becoming successful citizens in a free society. We are so happy as we track the progress of former graduates and see them flourishing in their post-graduation endeavors

We are at a juncture where additional donations would help us launch new programs we plan to implement in the near future. Please prayerfully consider contributing to NK Missions. If you would like to contribute, you may click here. With your financial support, we will continue to grow and reach more students with the love and kindness of God.

We are thankful for you all,
Lou and Lisa
