THIS IS NOT AFRICA – UNLEARN WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED

ARoS

27. Mar. 2021 — 24. Oct. 2021

I am delighted to announce my participation in the international group show THIS IS NOT AFRICA – UNLEARN WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED at ARoS - museum of contemporary art in Aarhus, Denmark.

THIS IS NOT AFRICA – UNLEARN WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED disrupts a conventional and stereotypical western narrative of Africanness. It includes works that in various ways parody, break through, deconstruct or establish new cognitive parameters and forms of expression. By way of exception, ARoS is going to create an art satellite in close collaboration with the ambitious and artistic powerhouse SCCA and Red Clay in Ghana.
I will be showing the photo series Atlantic (endless row) as well as the collaborative project I Am Queen Mary.

We are thrilled that our temporary artwork in Copenhagen's port has now been granted permanence following a historic decision by the Danish Government!

However, creating permanent weatherproof monuments in bronze is very expensive. So we need your support.

I AM QUEEN MARY

- is a pure artist-driven project created by two black female artists from different sides of the Atlantic but connected by the shared colonial history of Denmark and the US Virgin Islands. The first temporary version of the monument was inaugurated in March 2018 in Copenhagen generating lots of attention, debate and worldwide recognition.

Please find more info on the project and sign up here

WISHING YOU A MAGICAL SPRING
