2020 - The year of challenge and change

Dear friends, family and colleagues,
2020 has certainly been challenging in profound ways and I hope you and your loved ones are in great health and spirit!
Many lives have been affected immensely by the pandemic and still are.
Projects have been cancelled or postponed so it is with great humbleness and gratefulness that I share my current and upcoming events and exhibitions.

CHARLOTTENBORG ART CINEMA PRESENTS
AFTERSHOCKS
CURATED BY MAI TAKAWIRA
07.07.- 6.09.20 - last chance!!

In the light of the current global turmoil caused by the existing global anti-blackness, the film program Aftershocks, curated by Mai Takawira, presents a number of selected documentaries, records and video works which call attention to aftershocks that are local in nature and/or connected to ‘a Danish reality.’
I'm very pleased my work, Black Is A Beautiful Word. I & I  is included in the screening alongside great Danish and international artists.

The series launches interventions into the museum space, the written word, the archives, the asylum system and the EU border control policy. An accumulation of disobedience manifests itself as past and contemporary practices are questioned and challenged, pointing towards their impact on Black lives. At the same time, something is stirring, a counter-pressure, an insistence on existing; that Black Lives Matter.

Charlottenborg Art Cinema is Kunsthal Charlottenborg’s cinema found at our mezzanine on the 1st floor.

Address:
Nyhavn 2

The event is part of the current extensive research and dissemination exhibition project entitled “Powerful Presences: the Sculptural Portrait between Presence and Absence, Individual and Mass” which opened 8 March 2020.
Thorvaldsens Museum, in partnership with the University of Copenhagen, investigate the meaning and significance of the sculptural portrait.

Since antiquity, art and sculptural portraits have been a widespread medium for maintaining the memory of long-deceased ancestors. This was also the case in Thorvaldsen's time, but what do we do today, where the sculptural portraits play a much smaller role in our memory? In connection with our special exhibition, we offer a conversation between the visual artists Jeannette Ehlers and Nikolaj Recke, who have both contributed with works to the exhibition.

We're Magic. We're real #1 (The Installation) is on display in this show:

Excited to be performing the last piece in the We're Magic. We're Real trilogy.

VEGA | ARTS is a new visionary initiative that connects Denmark's most important venue with ambitious and frontier - seeking contemporary art in a study of what artistic experiences the interfaces between the artistic fields and the audience can generate.
Over a one-year period (May 2019 - Fall 2020, affected by the Covid 19 pandemic ), VEGA | ARTS will include performances, installations, exhibitions, talks, workshops and thematic activities that, over an evening or weekend, connect contemporary art's hybrid and performative practices with the concert's intense, intimate and cultural spaces.
Love and light

Jeannette
