We are delighted to send you the very first newsletter from the Northern Connections partnership. The newsletter is bimonthly and will cover Living Labs, events, progress and innovative findings on the unique corporation of clusters, cities, regions and enterprises in the North Sea region.

Northern Connections Kick Off

On December 13-14th 2016 the partnership behind Northern Connections met up in Aarhus, Denmark for the kick-off. We discussed how to expand our knowledge base as to work with Regional innovation strategies in a transnational perspective, but also what tools clusters can use to support SMEs in international innovation.

City Perspective

The North Sea region has a stronghold within industrial production and sustainable energy. To handle the challenges concerning the transition to renewable energy and to take advantage of these opportunities as well as increase the growth within that sector in our region, there is a need for cities, regions and clusters to cooperate across borders.

Working across boundaries

The Gothenburg region cross-cluster by enabling small, medium-sized and large companies from different industries to interact with one another as well as with the academia, research institutes, politicians, investors and public organisations.

What is and is not a Living Lab 

In short, a sustainable energy Living Lab is a real demonstration project with actual industry investments, technologies and experts. But is not a demonstration project, that is static and limited to its existing partners or topics. It must still be open to invite new experts, address its todays or future challenges to a transnational SME consortium and constantly strive for further improvement.

Scottish sustainability and innovation through Living Lab

With two partners in this programme, we are viewing Northern Connections INTERREG programme as great opportunity to drive forward our sustainability, innovation and transnational collaboration agendas. Falkirk Council is one of 32 Local Authorities in Scotland and Scottish Enterprise is the national economic development agency.

Delegation from Kosovo Explores Danish Solar Heating

House of Energy recently had a visit from a delegation from Kosovo. The delegation were in Denmark on a study trip to learn about Danish energy technology, how to use it in Kosovo’s energy production and to gather knowledge on how to work as a cluster.

Northern Connections is participating in the The North Sea Conference 2017

The conference takes place in Göttingen, Germany on 29-30 June 2017. The theme of this year's North Sea Conference is Sustainable Growth Corridors for the Region. The Northern Connections project is represented by WP1 lead Aalborg Municipality and will focus on: What does cooperation mean for the North Sea Region and how to organize it in the future?
