ShopBot Sponsors Makerspace Challenge to Help Students Learn 21st Century Job Skills

ShopBot Tools is proud to be a key sponsor of the U.S. Department of Education's CTE (Career & Technical Education) Makeover Challenge. Hundreds of schools recently entered their designs for a school-based makerspace, with a chance to win $20K to build and furnish their makerspace! Ten schools will be awarded this prize, which also includes access to the CTE Makeover Bootcamp, a 6-week program providing resources and expertise in makerspace design and planning.

ShopBot Tools is involved in a big way. We’re donating Handibot® Smart Power Tools, training classes, webinars, and blogs to help teachers and students set up and get the most from their digital fabrication tools. Read more at the ShopBot Blog.

Check out our new video about
the ShopBot Desktop MAX

Our new ShopBot Desktop MAX provides a 36" x 24" x 5.5" work area, twice that of the ShopBot Desktop, making it easy to fit items such as guitars, chair and table parts, cabinetry parts and more, onto the bed. The Desktop MAX's power and precision will make it a favorite of sign makers, luthiers, furniture makers, and anyone interested in prototyping or full production. The tool features two options for beds, an aluminum deck or a plenum with universal hold-down system. Learn more about these options and see full specs for the tool here.

ShopBot On The Road

STEM Expo Day at York Elementary in Raleigh

For the second year in a row, ShopBot visited York Elementary School in Raleigh, NC, to participate in their STEM Expo. This year’s theme was Creating a Green Scene, so many of the displays and demos used recycled materials in creative ways. Sallye Coyle, our Community Outreach Director, prefabricated the parts for step stools that could be used at the water fountains or in the classrooms. Handibot Developer Brian Owen demonstrated the process of designing on the computer so that the Handibot could carve the school logo or a student’s design on the tops of the stools.

Coming this Summer: Fab 12 in China!

Each year members of the more than 1,000 worldwide Fab Labs gather to share, collaborate, explore and, of course, fabricate. In August 2016 they will meet in Shenzhen, China a historically important city for manufacturing and making, and ShopBot will be there. Learn more at the Fab 12 website (Be sure to check out the photo slideshow from Fab 11; you'll see familiar faces from ShopBot!)

100kGarages Opens its Doors
to Community Colleges

There's now the opportunity for community colleges to join the 100kGarages.com network as Community Resource Centers for nearby entrepreneurs, designers, fabbers and those interested in doing small-scale manufacturing. This is a great way for local colleges to both nurture and collaborate with startups and established businesses using digital fabrication. Learn more about the Pilot Program at 100kGarages.com
