Here at ShopBot World Headquarters, we have on-site training sessions that are typically scheduled at least once a month. Apparently they’re quite the hot ticket—they’re filling up fast! So take a look at our upcoming training dates, and get your name on the list to attend. You’ll not only get some worthwhile training, but while you’re in town you can enjoy things like our foodie scene, get inspired by Duke Gardens, or maybe even catch the Durham Bulls playing a game at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Camp ShopBot

Looking for something that might be a little closer to home? Something a little shorter with show-and-tell and networking components? Then attending a Camp ShopBot might be right for you. There are a couple currently scheduled for this fall, but keep your eye on the ShopBot website’s “Events” page, where we’ll post any additional camps as they are confirmed.

Nothing currently scheduled that works for you? Consider starting a ShopBot User Group in your area. There are so many places, and so many members of the ShopBot community, that there are not enough of us at ShopBot to go around!

Don’t worry, you can start with simple get-togethers to share information and techniques, then see where it goes from there. We can help you get started, including tips on scouting a location, getting additional presenters (other than yourself, of course), making your event fun and informative, and promoting it to the people in your area.

ShopBot On The Road

38th Annual NISOD International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence

The National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) is a membership organization committed to promoting and celebrating excellence in teaching, learning, and leadership at community and technical colleges.

At this year’s annual NISOD conference, ShopBot's Community Outreach lead, Sallye Coyle, conducted a roundtable session that addressed questions about makerspaces and digital fabrication labs. The subject matter was quite varied, including machine safety, machine operation certification, the process of sending designs to a CNC machine or a laser cutter, and  success stories about workshops at art-based makerspaces. There was also a participant, with a Desktop at his school, that learned that a Desktop was a better tool than a laser cutter for creating circuit board.

A big THANK YOU to Russell Stanphill at TechShop Austin, for saving the day at the ShopBot booth at the conference in Austin. A suitcase with all the literature and supplies for the booth was lost in transit and Russell supplied ShopBot-machined samples for the event—as well as taking time from his Memorial Day weekend—to provide support to Sallye during the show.
