Happy New Year to You!

We hope that it is a happy, healthy and productive one for you. For us, 2016 marks a special birthday. We first opened the doors to ShopBot Tools twenty years ago, with a mission to make the tools and technology of digital fabrication widely accessible and user-friendly. We're proud to still be here and still living the mission — and it's thanks to YOU and the trust that you place in us. So... thank you!

Stay tuned for announcements about special events held in recognition of our 20th year.

Wood-Mode Custom Cabinets

(Click on image to view video.)

Wood-Mode is America's largest manufacturer of semi-custom cabinetry, a $150 million company based in Kreamer, PA. For over ten years they have integrated ShopBot CNC technology into their workflow; they own one tool built by ShopBot, and have built more than a dozen of their own CNC tools that run ShopBot software. They've told us that our Production Support services have been continuously helpful. Don't hesitate to give us a call to discuss your production needs. We're happy to help!

ShopBotters at Work

Lorain County Community College

The Fab Lab movement began at MIT in the early 2000s with the mission to help communities in developing nations learn 21st century technologies that can empower them to become self-sustaining. But until 2005 there wasn't a Fab Lab in the U.S. to support these same goals. That all changed in Elyria, Ohio, at Lorain County Community College, which became home to America's first Fab Lab. It's a vital hub that truly serves the needs of local startups, local workers, and established manufacturers. Read the story at the ShopBot blog.

Putting a ShopBot Desktop MAX to Work

Brian Owen, who heads up the Handibot development team, is himself a ShopBotter. He's written up the story of how he helped a friend by designing and building a space-savvy desk for her tiny house. It's a great story about helping a friend and also about helping yourself to learn new design and construction techniques. Check it out at the ShopBot Blog.

Projects, Projects, Projects!

Bill Young's Nerdy Derby Flat Track

ShopBot's Bill Young has written up a great in-depth post enabling you to build your own "Nerdy Derby Flat Track." Check it out here at the ShopBot Blog and get to work!

Want to make something else? Here are links that may lead you to new inspiration in the new year!
This site, created back in the late 90’s has some really great, free projects from Bill Young. Our favorites? Aldo Dog House, QuickLap Canoe, and Rubber Band Racer.
These are Ready-to-Go Projects. Again, free. Lots of them are by Michael Tyler of Vectric and made available to users. Very well done with a wide variety of techniques.
This site by Paul Campbell does a really great job at providing files that are for sale at pretty reasonable prices - especially for what you get.
Jon Cantin runs the "CNC King” website. Many of his projects started out at laser projects that he’s gone back in and turned into CNC projects.
From a full custom electric guitar, to a professional-grade yo-yo, to the Shelter 2.0 building, you'll find links to nice handful of fun and useful projects.

Supporting Your Success

Around here we like to say, 'it's not just the tools, it's the support.' We do get nice feedback that our people go the extra mile to help customers succeed with CNC. If you haven't yet participated in the Forum, we encourage you to jump in. If you ever have a question, give our tech support team a call. And our training classes continue to grow in popularity. We're going to host more classes than ever in 2016 — not just "getting started" sessions but ones designed to support specialized applications. Let us know what you'd like help with, and we can set up a class around that topic.
