ShopBot Joins the 2017 National Scout Jamboree

This year we were at the National Scout Jamboree for the first time, and based on our report from ShopBot’s Gordon Bergfors, it was a success! As a part of the Makerspace tent, ShopBot was represented with not just a Desktop tool, but with two Handibot® Smart Power Tools too. Both scouts and staff found their way to our area to cut badges on the Handibot–via the FabMo app, Badger–and other more complex pieces with the ShopBot Desktop. For more on Gordon’s observations (and a whole lot of photos!), read his post on the ShopBot blog.

ShopBot on the Road

Bringing Fab Labs Together at Fab13 in Santiago, Chile

ShopBot’s Sallye Coyle and Jeanne Taylor had the opportunity to attend this year’s International Fab Lab meeting, Fab13, in Santiago, Chile. This year’s theme, “Fabricating Society” was evident to them from the beginning–when they saw the project put together by Fab Lat (the Latin American network of Fab Labs) in the pavilion for the event. It was also seen the in the themes of the workshops and small breakout groups throughout the schedule for Fab13.

Since they were already down in Chile, they visited several Chile locations that have ShopBots of their own. Might as well make use of time that far away from home, right?

To read more about their visit, the event, and see some photos of their trip, see Jeanne’s ShopBot blog post.

A Slacker’s Take on CNC Fabrication

Bill Young is always telling people he’s not an expert at CNC techniques and methods, but those that know him probably beg to differ. Whatever he may consider himself, he has good advice to offer anyone in the realm of CNC, no matter what level you consider yourself. In a Medium post from this summer, this self-proclaimed “slacker” shares some of the methods that he puts to use when he’s working on a CNC project—from getting the job done to hold downs and cutting strategy to easing into the cutting itself.

Evolution of an Idea: ShopBot's Vision for World Maker Faire New York

When ShopBot began preparing for this year’s World Maker Faire in New York, we determined that we wanted to showcase how ShopBot CNC tools integrate into a small scale manufacturing process. Enter, the idea: food truck trays. Trays that people can use at events to give them easier access to their food and drink while avoiding the inevitable awkward juggling of items.

As we know, while we all love our first ideas, things change once you seek feedback and let other chefs into the kitchen. This doesn’t mean we weren’t successful in developing the small scale production process for our booth at World Maker Faire, it just means that the idea for the booth had to evolve as the idea for the project evolved.

To learn more about the evolution of our idea and see more photos of the food trays, visit the ShopBot blog. Or better yet, if you’re in the tristate area, or are planning to be in the vicinity of New York City September 23 or 24, come visit our booth at World Maker Faire. Not only will you see our small production line running, you might even be able to get yourself one of the trays!

ShopBot at SOUTH-TEC

October 24-26, ShopBot is going to be exhibiting at SOUTH-TEC, a Southeastern regional manufacturing show in Greenville, SC. It is one of several regional shows across North America presented by the partnership between SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers) and AMT (Association For Manufacturing Technology).

A little more about the show:
SOUTH-TEC draws manufacturing suppliers, distributors and equipment builders from across North America and around the world – bringing them together in Greenville, South Carolina. With hundreds of exhibiting companies, attendees can find all the latest technologies and services – plus the experts who build them – ready to demonstrate solutions that can help them grow their business.

As an exhibitor, we've been given several passes for complimentary admission to the show. If you are interested in receiving one of these passes, please contact us via email: with your name, company name, and mailing address. That way we can put a pass in the mail to you!

Pretty excited! We made our first tele style body today. It took quite a bit of work to get to this point. We'll make a few bodies more tomorrow, then on to the necks. #tele #telecaster #partscaster #vonbret #shopbot #cnc #inventor #fusion360
