JUMP NEXT STEP SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

Johnston Youth Mentoring Program’s Next Step Scholarship, recognizing resilience and perseverance, was presented by the Johnston Partnership at the 2020 Chopped event in March. This year’s recipient, Yeisi Hernandez is the daughter of Flor and Jairo and has been a participant in the JUMP program since 7th grade. During her high school years, Yeisi participated in track, swimming, cheer and has earned the seal of biliteracy. Yeisi has shown tremendous resolve and determination in reaching her goal of high school graduation. She has already embarked on the next steps of recognizing her dreams of working in the health care field by starting the nursing program at DMACC during her senior year of high school.

Thank You Volunteers!

On behalf of the Johnston Partnership Board and Staff, we want to say thank you to our volunteers! To our current volunteers, thank you for rolling with the punches and learning in the moment with us! To our volunteers who we haven't seen for awhile, we miss you and appreciate you!
"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."

The Johnston Partnership Clothing Room is Opening in June!

  • Starting June 2nd, we will accept children's clothing donations ONLY
  • We still have very limited space, and we will work through these donations before allowing all other donations. Children's clothing is anything that is kid sized: newborn-size 18, depending on the labels
  • Donations must be recently laundered. They will go into "quarantine" for 72 hours before being accessible to clients
  • There is a form available on our website www.johnstonpartnership.org for clients to complete before coming to help our volunteers "shop" and package up their requests. These forms can be emailed, just like the food pantry forms, to andrea@johnstonpartnership.org
  • Additional questions can be directed to the Johnston Partnership at 515-868-1357

Effective March 17th, the Johnston Partnership will be operating under new procedures to inhibit the spread of Covid-19.

As always, we ask that any staff or volunteers stay home if sick. Just like school, you need to be fever free and 24 hours removed from any symptoms before coming to the pantry.

We continue to clean as we always have, as we do have high traffic volume in our small space. All surfaces that are regularly touched - door handles, grocery carts, the bathroom, etc. will be cleaned at the end of the pantry day. We have hand sanitizer, hand soap and paper towels on hand, and encourage regular breaks for anyone who touches food to wash hands.

The Johnston Partnership will operate our Food Pantry with a paper order form. After placing an order, clients will be asked to wait in their vehicles or outside while it is being completed. Call/email ahead orders are also welcome, using the forms found on our website. Email orders to andrea@johnstonpartnership.org or call in at 515-528-2379 or 515-868-1357. Staff & volunteers will be the only ones allowed inside the pantry. Staff will be the only ones with any client contact, as food pantry volunteers will be pulling orders, stocking and organizing as always. Anytime items will be pre-bagged and distributed according to family size.

Our clothing room will be closed until further notice, as there will be no safe way to operate that space. If you have donations, we ask that you hold them until at least April 14th.

Our newly-formed Benevolence Fund will still be accessible. This is open to those who live within the Johnston School District boundaries, and it does require a short application/interview process. We are able to assist with financial needs such as rental assistance, utility assistance or other emergency financial needs.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. It is critical that we find a way to stay open, as the needs around food insecurity will only increase when people are home for long periods of time. We will be open during our regular hours: Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays 9am-1pm.

If you would like to help, we will still need volunteers! Sign up (or walk-in) at www.johnstonpartnership.org. Monetary donations go a lot further to help us fill ever changing needs. Click the DONATE button on our website!

We are still accepting food donations, personal care donations and monetary donations. Please click here to make a monetary donation. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

JUMP MENTORS NEEDED!!

JUMP is a one-to-one mentoring program that facilitates one hour mentoring sessions between a member of the community and a Johnston student in grades 6-12 during the school day. Mentors act as positive role models who listen and help set goals while reinforcing basic skills, attitudes and other lessons in life. Mentors typically meet with their students one hour each week during the school day. Anyone who wants to get involved can fill out an application packet. For more information on how you can become a mentor in the Johnston Community School District, please contact Chris Wilson at 515.986.2007
