This Week

Sunday | Mar 1, 2015  |  Second Sunday in Lent

"Once a man was asked, what did you gain by regularly praying to God?' The man replied, 'nothing...but let me tell you what I lost: Anger, ego, greed, depression, insecurity, and fear of death.' Sometimes, the answer to our prayers is not gaining but losing; which ultimately is the gain." --Source Unknown

The church season of Lent is a great time to introduce new ways to pray. This week's "stations of the cross" invites us to lose and "let go" of the anger, ego, greed, depression, insecurity, and fears we tend to hold on to. No cross compares to the one carried for us by Jesus Christ. It is this cross that is our focus; teaching us what it means to suffer, to be rejected, to die, and to live again. But cross carrying is also a picture of the ordinary spiritual life; a place where God shows up in our deepest felt, sometimes most uncomfortable and embarrassing prayers.

In addition to the "stations of the cross" available for all ages on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings throughout the season of Lent, children are also being equipped to pray with their peers, and members of our congregation who have traveled or lived in other countries. This week we welcome Julie Carr & Bernie Asher as our "show and tell" prayer guests, followed by our K - GR 5 WAM (worship, arts & music) activity for the month.
Have you lived or traveled abroad? Please consider joining GR 1 - 5 for a few minutes on a Sunday morning to share some of your experiences, and how we can be praying for the people of countries beyond our own. See the list of choices at the sign-up center!
