The rides are filling up throughout the week. Feedback and participation with the schedule and new weekly format have been great; we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. A lot of hard work and countless hours have gone into making and keeping the club thriving over the years and that’s all paying off now as we build upon that legacy. A special thanks to all the ride leaders who have been doing a great job accommodating the new formats and multiple routes on the rides. Thank a ride leader today, the club couldn’t function without them!
Gravel ride recap
July 7th saw the first SRCC Annual Big Gravel Ride. We had close to one-third of the club participate on their cross bikes, MTBs and a couple of road bikes with road tires (yikes! it can be done, just not recommended!). The ride was fun and adventurous, feedback was great, the weather smiled upon us and the free beer from our newest sponsor, Fixed Gear Brewing, was delicious! Would it have been so darn fun in the rain? With such good company... I’ll issue a definite ‘oh yeah!’ Check out the full ride report here.
Upcoming MTB ride
There is a super-secret SRCC Guelph MTB Sunday group ride in the works for this fall. But we can't tell you about that just yet, it's still super-secret.
Welcome everyone to vacation season and hot summer riding. A special welcome if you’re a new club member and this is your first newsletter from SRCC. Be sure and check out our New Member page.
To all those heading away for some R&R or other adventures, be sure and keep safe. We’ve recently had a couple of vehicle incidents that sent two members to the hospital. A ride leader had minor stitches, bruising and needs a new bike, and the other, a Board member, was cut off while on his motorcycle, which left him with multiple and serious fractures. If you’re not a car, many people just won’t see you. Ride smart and be aware and as visible as you can out there.
Happy pedaling, and see you on the roads and trails,
Membership Experience Director, Speed River Cycling Club
