In this email: Final Weekday Rides, Club Social Tonight, Discord Club Communication and the Big 100 Road Rides.

Final Weekday Rides

Sadly the days are getting shorter, with the earlier sunset and poor visibility late in the day our weekday ride season must come to an end. The last two weekday rides for 2023 will be the Tuesday TAM ride tonight, and the upcoming Thursday rides.

Weekend rides will still continue until at least the end of October!

Still want to keep riding with your club mates on weekdays? Check out the Club Communication (Discord) section below for details on finding non-club rides organized by our members!

Club Social Tonight

What better way to finish the weekday ride season then a club social at our sponsor Fixed Gear's Canteen (Edinburgh Road Location) with some good company! Some riders will head over directly from the ride, some will head home for a shower and change first, either way you're welcome! Can't make the ride, well you're also still welcome to attend!

Club Communication (Discord Server)

In the past when the weekday rides have ended for the season many of our members have chosen to keep the good times rolling for a few more weeks by organizing unofficial rides. In the past this has been challenging for everyone to communicate who's interested, times and meeting places. We've been working on a better way for a while, but thanks to some hard work by one of our members (Julian Uzielli) we now have a place to organize and chat when not on a club ride!

If you haven't used Discord before its a instant messaging, voice and video chat platform, somewhere between the forums of old, and pure chat applications. It may sound a bit intimidating but don't let that deter you, it can be accessed on your phone or PCs web browser, or though downloadable iPhone/Android/Desktop apps.

GCC now has a group, called a "server," which members can join and use to communicate. You can organize rides (or non cycling activities), sell cycling equipment filling up your space, buy some to replace what you've sold, find people to ride with on Zwift or chat about what's going on at the Vuelta! The options are endless!

How to get started:
  1. Before you can join the GCC server, you first need a Discord account, if you don't have one you can create one here.
  2. Once you have your account set up, join the GCC server by clicking this invitation link: https://discord.gg/WXc8jyedyP
  3. After that, for a more detailed explanation of how to use Discord, visit the "How To Use Discord" channel on the GCC server.
Once you've gotten connected you can download the application if you want a more robust interface, or access it through our website here.

If you have any issues feel free to reply to this email and I'll try to assist you as quickly as I can!

Big 100 Road Ride

Its back, and its better then ever! September 18th join us for the Big 100 Century Rides (Metric and Imperial!). Its the biggest GCC road ride of the year with local beer and gourmet wood oven pizza at the end!

It could be a great opportunity for you to see how your fitness has progressed throughout the season. Or you can just come along for another Sunday ride, you decide what this will be for you!

There are two century distances to choose from: 160km (100 miles) or 100 kilometers. Each with three speed groups.

The two routes have been carefully scouted and prepared by seasoned GCC road master John Lyall. He assures us there are no hills – we don’t believe him. There will be rest stations along the way and we will be riding some pretty cool and not often travelled roads – that, we believe!

Sign up is required (we need numbers for food and drinks!).

More details here!

Hope to see everyone out tonight!
