It is not often I receive calls from outside the country, well this may actually be the first call I have received from outside the country; and from Iraq at that.  Sharon Maag from Snuggle Rescue group went over with a friend to help out a soldier asking for assistance with cats at the American Embassy.  It was not her first time flying overseas to assist soldiers with rescuing critters they had fallen in love with, but this soldier was not coming home; he wanted help getting the cats to the US while he stayed behind working on TNR.  He has a daughter in Wentzville, but she already had her own pets and kids and life and did not have room for any others.  If I would sponsor the cats Sharon would bring them back and get them healthy, I agreed.  One very pregnant female came over and had babies almost immediately upon getting to Sharon’s house (five of them and all adopted out), and one adult male with very bad eyes that needed vet care immediately to have one eye removed and had a bit of work done on the other eye as well.  His remaining eye still does not open all the way and he squints at you and is a little sensitive about his field of vision.  I always talk to Sameer when I am getting close to him to let him know I am coming and what direction I will be approaching.  He has only been frightened by me a couple of times and I have learned to work around his disability so it does not happen again, all he did was strike out at me; but scaring the kitty is not part of the fostering plan.  He LOVES brushing and head scratching and LOVES kitty treats almost as much!  Sameer should be an only pet, he has shown aggression at other adult cats and while he does like playing with kittens; they grow up!  So to work around his personality and limitations, and another critter’s safety; we recommend Sameer be the only fur baby in a forever home.  Click here for more information about Sameer.
