Become a Heartland Foster Care Family
If you have a big heart, consider becoming a foster home for a cat or dog. Fostering an animal simply means housing and caring for that animal until it is adopted into a permanent home. Dog fostering is a wonderful opportunity to make a huge difference in the life of a dog, puppy, litter of puppies, or a calm older dog. Living in a foster home, enjoying the love and care you provide, gives a dog the opportunity to learn to be a family pet.

Cats and kittens often come from sad and unfortunate circumstances. They need safe, loving homes to help them regain good health and trust in humans. In return for all this, you will get to spend time with a pet that needs a new best friend, and the time and affection you share together will be well spent.
If fostering is not for you, we are also looking for volunteers to care for the cats at the Luv-a-Pet Center at the O'Fallon PetSmart on Hwy K.  Available shifts areWednesday and Sunday mornings (anytime between 8 - 11 am).  In return for your help, you will receive lots of kitty purrs and kisses.
For more information about becoming a foster parent or caring for the cats at PetSmart, please call us at (636) 922-0569 or fill out an online foster or volunteer application at www.hhsrescue.org.
Hi, my name is Foxy and I am about 1 year old.  I used to be a house cat but my previous human must have put me outside.  I was scared and lived in the sewers of a subdivision so people thought I was feral.  After watching a family for awhile I decided to introduce myself to their 7 year old by rubbing up against his legs and purring up a storm.  He named me Foxy because of the white tip to my tail and he said I was beautiful.  Would you believe it, this lead to more food and an invite inside!  I had kittens awhile ago but I am spayed now.  I also test negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia and have been rabies and FVRCP vaccinated.  I have my claws but am very gentle with them and do not scratch or bite, not even when I get scared in a pet carrier.  My foster family has 2 cats that REALLY don't want me to be here so I need to find a home quick!   They also have a dog that I'm okay with other than he won't stop following me around!  My foster Mom is a terrible photographer, but everybody says I am a beautiful Tortie girl with golden eyes. I do not take long to warm up to new people and I am very friendly once I do.  I love being petted, even on my belly.  I really hope I get to meet my forever family soon so I can play and get petted all the time!

As you may guess, Samantha's name came from the television show Bewitched.  She is such a sweet, gentle soul and craves affection from people.  She especially enjoys ear scratches and chin rubs.  She can be timid around new people at first and may need just a bit of time to adjust, but once she does, she will be your best friend.  She does not have a mean bone in her body and loves everyone she meets, including other kitties.  Poor Samantha was in rough shape when we pulled her from animal control.  She had a polyp in her ear that caused a horrible infection so we removed it.  She was also treated for a bad upper respiratory infection.  Despite feeling awful, she was the perfect patient and never stopped purring and being sweet.  We are happy to report that she is now healthy and is doing great, so she is ready for her forever family.  Samantha does great with other cats and may adjust to a cat-friendly dog after a proper introduction.  Older kids would be best for her due to her timid nature.  Samantha is spayed, current on vaccinations, tested negative for FelV/FIV and microchipped - DOB 1/5/12.
