Giving Thanks

This has been a tough year on those of us in rescue... adoptions have decreased overall, but intake continues to increase because more and more animals are finding themselves homeless and in need of help! Strays off the streets, animals on death row at shelters, and pets who are surrendered by their families for various reasons... it never ends.

Donations have decreased as well, which has really taken a toll on us because our vet bills are higher than ever and with fewer adoptions and donations, our funds are quickly depleting. As much as we hate to ask for help, we must in order to continue in our mission of saving the animals who so desperately need us. So, as we approach the holiday season, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Heartland - every penny counts and is greatly appreciated! To donate via PayPal, go to www.hhsrescue.org or mail a check to: Heartland Humane Society, PO Box 113, O'Fallon, MO 63366.

In addition, you can also donate pet supplies from our Amazon wish list and have them shipped directly to us, and of course you can always drop by PetSmart in O'Fallon on Saturdays to bring donations! Tidy Cat litter is always a favorite, as is Friskies or Fancy Feast canned food. :)

Thank you for your consideration and generosity! Our foster parents, volunteers and furry babies really appreciate it!

Casino

This kitty was found in Maryland Heights with an injured leg.  The family that found her went to the Humane Society and were told they would euthanize the kitty.  After four more phone calls with the same story they posted her on Facebook and Heartland was copied on the post from that.   Of course we did not euthanize this very friendly girl, we took her to the vet and had the injury checked out.  At some point in her youth she broke her wrist, one side of the growth plate stopped growing; the other side did not.  So she had a hooked paw and we could not care less about that.  She was also about one month pregnant and gave birth to five babies in my home.  All are now adopted and Casino would like a home of her own.  She gets around just fine, yes she can jump; she gets along with other kitties, loves canned food, brushing, petting, and all the normal kitty stuff.  She uses her bad foot more for balance than for walking, she holds it up quite a bit while moving and puts it back down to pivot or stop.  She does not need surgery, just be sure to keep the claws trimmed!  She is quite the affectionate kitty and purrs up a storm!  She is spayed, up to date on all shots, micro chipped, negative for FIV and FeLV, and treated for parasites.  Casino is Heartland #10148CL.  There is a video of Casino on our Facebook page!  Please give it a click and scroll down to find her.

Will
Will is one happy and fun-loving kitty! He is part of the Royal Family litter... he and his mom, Diana, along with his brothers (Charlie & Harry) and sister (Kate) were rescued from a local animal control shelter when their time was up. The kittens were just a couple of weeks old but sadly, animal control shelters fill up fast and have limited space, especially in more rural areas as most do not do many adoptions. Will is a total hoot and is the most outgoing and affectionate one of the group. He absolutely loves people and doesn't know a stranger. If you have hands for petting and a shoulder for perching on, he will be your best bud! He really enjoys play time, especially when it involves his favorite feather toy or wrestling with his siblings, but he's also at the age where he's content to just lay on your lap and snuggle. He has a habit of jumping on my back or climbing on my shoulder when he wants attention and I honestly love it; it's just one of his many funny and cute little quirks that makes him such a lovable character. Will enjoys canned food, treats and hanging out on his cat tree and watching the birds outside. There isn't much that he doesn't like except for getting his nails trimmed - it's a 2 person job but he's not aggressive about it, just very wiggly. Will adores other cats and must not be an only kitty; he needs a feline friend or two to play and snuggle with. He would also do fine with a cat-friendly dog once properly introduced, and kids are no problem at all for this friendly boy. Will is neutered, current on shots, negative for FeLV/FIV and microchipped - DOB 6/10/16 (tag # 10307).
