End of Summer News from the Catherine McAuley Center

Pride Mobility Sponsors Christmas in July Toy Drive

Many families in our local communities are unable to celebrate Christmas as they struggle to provide the basic necessities of food and shelter. In response to this critical need, the employees of Pride Mobility coordinated a donation drive to benefit the Catherine McAuley Center by collecting toys for children who might otherwise never experience the magic of Christmas.

Pride Mobility Products Corp. helps thousands of people live their lives to the fullest by creating the best personal mobility products in the world.  Pride’s commitment to show compassion, respect and appreciation for others is demonstrated by giving back to the community in so many different ways.  “The generosity of our employees was overwhelming for our Christmas in July toy drive,” said Denise Truesdale, Vice President, Human Resources. “We strive to go above and beyond to show our employees how much we appreciate them knowing they do the same for our customers.  The week-long Christmas in July celebration is now a tradition at Pride and includes festive decorations and attire, plenty of employee giveaways, cookouts and showcasing our employees in our Holiday Video that is filmed throughout the week.  The toy drive benefiting the Catherine McAuley Center children was a great privilege to top off our week of celebration.”
Sprucing Up the
Catherine McAuley House
As our Emergency Shelter Residence in Luzerne County, the Catherine McAuley House in Plymouth has opened their doors and their hearts to homeless women and children since 1989, when the first guests arrived. Today, this residence remains the primary source of shelter for homeless women and children in Luzerne County. Last year the Catherine McAuley House gave dignity and hope to 107 homeless women and children.
The gift of time is priceless, and the Catherine McAuley House depends on a giving community of volunteers to sustain their operations. The physical upkeep and maintenance alone of this Emergency Shelter Residence can be an overwhelming responsibility. An amazing group of students from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre recently volunteered their time and service to give the Catherine McAuley House a much-needed facelift. From cleaning the kitchen to painting and landscaping, these students helped to make the residence shine.
Are you a member of an organization, school group, or civic association in Luzerne County in search of a volunteer project that will have an impact here, in our own local community? The Catherine McAuley House in Plymouth offers a wide range of service opportunities for interested volunteers.
