For one family in particular, this experience meant so much more than the excitement of a new hairstyle. Recently, the Catherine McAuley Center had a mom and her two daughters come into the Scranton Emergency Shelter and later into one of our housing programs. During this time, the mom was able to secure a job, move into an apartment, and is now getting back on her feet. This was the first haircut that she and her daughters had received in four long years. Her two daughters excitedly shared that they felt like “rockstars” and “couldn’t wait to show off their new dos!” For our client who is now a working mother, her new cut will be more manageable when preparing the girls for school and herself for work in the morning.
The mission of the Catherine McAuley Center goes far beyond the basics of housing. Providing our families with self-confidence and a sense of their own worth and dignity are priceless gifts. We thank Jessica, Bekkah, and Selena for raising the spirits of our women and children.
