Summer News from the Catherine McAuley Center

Anne Paone Gallagher Honored as 2019 Mercy Woman of the Year

Each year the Catherine McAuley Center honors an individual who embodies the Mercy spirit of compassion and service as our Mercy Woman of the Year. In 2019, we took great pride in honoring Anne Paone Gallagher at our annual Swing for Mercy Golf Tournament on June 17 at the Wyoming Valley Country Club.

As a member of the Catherine McAuley Center Board of Directors, Anne has been a generous supporter and strong advocate for the Center’s work with homeless families. “Anne embodies the spirit of mercy and brings such a positive energy to the board of directors at the Catherine McAuley Center,” shared Executive Director Krista Somers. “She has been an integral part of shaping the future of the Center and keeping the women and children we serve at the heart of every decision. We are honored to celebrate Anne as the 2019 Mercy Woman is the Year.”

All proceeds from the Swing for Mercy Golf Tournament benefit the Catherine McAuley Center and our programs serving homeless women and children. We extend a special thank you to all the sponsors, golfers, donors, and volunteers who contributed to the success of this annual fundraising event. A special note of gratitude goes to Coordinated Health Scranton Orthopedics for their generous support as our Presenting Sponsor.
People's Security Charitable Foundation Awards Grant to Center
We are deeply grateful to Peoples Security Charitable Foundation of Peoples Security Bank & Trust for awarding a generous grant of $2,500.00 to the Catherine McAuley Center. This grant will support the creation of an Outdoor Learning and Activity Play Area for the families we serve. Programs offered at this learning center will be designed to stimulate learning and cognitive development, strengthen the social and emotional skills of our children, and promote the acquisition of life skills for all family members.

Girl Scouts Reach Out to the Catherine McAuley House
Penn’s Woods Girl Scout Service Unit 331 paid a visit in July to the Catherine McAuley House in Plymouth. The girls and their leaders were given a tour of the Emergency Shelter Residence as they learned about the mission and history of Catherine McAuley. The group plans to return in the fall for a community service project.
The Girl Scout cookies donated brought many smiles to the faces of families staying at the Catherine McAuley House.
