Greetings Sherman Oaks CES Family this is Principal Price.
Hope you had a relaxing summer break and are recharged and ready for the new school year. Classes begin this Tuesday, August 20th. Tuesday is a regular schedule 3:05 pm dismissal. All periods will meet both Tuesday and Wednesday. Most, if not all, of your textbooks will be distributed during your classes on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Beyond the Bell after school program also begins on Tuesday. However, late buses will not start for a while.
New 4th graders and all 5th graders will meet their teachers on the blacktop behind the gym. Entry is through the west side of the gymnasium. Leadership students will be out in front and around the campus to help all new, and returning, students find their Advisory rooms the first week of school. School staff will also be out and about if you need assistance.
There are several new faces on campus -- our newest faculty members are Ms. Massingill (MS English), Ms. Campos (6th gr ELA/SS), Mr. Barnoya (Physics/Chemistry), and Mr. Carlos, subbing for Mr. Boyle in 4th grade. We also have two new assistant principals -- Mrs. Cunningham in the Attendance Office/SPED and Dr. Sim Kim in the Main Office/ Elementary.
The campus got a partial makeover during the break, but not all areas are complete. Please enjoy the new spaces. Most of the new landscaping is NOT finished so stay out of areas fenced off to give the construction team time to complete the project. Construction of the new elementary building and gymnasium are still ahead of schedule and should be ready by spring break 2020.
Again welcome back. I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday morning!

Attention Parents of 5th & 6th Graders
Attached are the flyers for THIS year's 5th grade Astrocamp and THIS year's 6th Grade PaliCamp trips. Your children should have brought home these flyers before summer break.
The purpose of these flyers is to:
Let you know that these optional overnight trips will be occurring EARLY in the school year.
Allow you to save money if you would like your child to participate.
Let you know that we will be having a meeting the FIRST WEEK of school to get all of the paperwork started.
Why are we starting so early? Space is limited, and the October 11th trip will sneak up on us really fast once school starts. We want everyone to have an opportunity to plan because the deadline for this trip will be right at the beginning of the school year.
