In the last month we have been improving the comfort and appearance of our auditorium. We stripped out every seat and sent a number of them to be sympathetically restored. We estimate that these seats are over 100 years old and we love them! They are an important part of our heritage and we are committed to preserving that heritage whilst making a trip to our theatre as comfortable and as special as possible for our audiences.

We have refurbished more than 60 of these beautiful old seats and ordered a further thirty new linking seats which will be arriving very soon. These will give us an increase in our flexibility for performance space, and room to dance at open mic nights!

Rehearsals for Scrooge the Pantomime are well underway and it's already making us laugh! We are having lots of fun but working hard to produce another fantastic pantomime. Our stage crew are also hard at work and the set is beginning to look really exciting. It is one of our most ambitious sets yet.

Scrooge the Pantomime is our twist on Charles Dickens' classic Christmas story, with all the usual pantomime treats- a gorgeous dame, a villain you can hiss at and lots of opportunities to shout: Oh no it isn't! Add in great scenery, fabulous lighting effects and plenty of laughter, and you have the ingredients for a great night out in our newly refurbished auditorium.

Also look out for our new flooring and carpeting through out the theatre. We love the new look of our floors. Our theatre skills movement work now takes place on our newly fitted floor, giving us more space to experiment and develop our work.
We are really pleased to have been able to add galleries for the first 12 productions of Wigton Theatre Club in the 1950s. You can see this archive at

Did  you  know ?
Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol in just six weeks. It was published on 19th December 1843 and by Christmas Eve, all 6,000 copies of the initial print run had sold out. The book has never been out of print since.

It was first adapted for the stage within weeks of publication. By the end of February 1844, eight rival theatrical productions were playing in London.

The first screen adaptation was a 6-minute silent film named Scrooge, or Marley’s Ghost made in 1901. The story has since been filmed over 200 times.
