Your contributions are making a huge impact in the lives of 35 war orphans in the Congo. Our goal extends beyond creating a safe, secure and loving environment for each child. We strive to ensure that they are educated, equipped and prepared to be contributing members of the community in the future. Support Grace Orphanage.
Progress Update - The First Children's Home Is Under Construction!
After purchasing 2 acres of land a year ago that we are developing into a facility to house up to 60 orphans, we are excited to report that we started construction about four weeks ago on the first small house that will be home to 10 children.
IWOF's Next Trip to Grace Orphanage Departs September 13, 2018
Johann Van Rensburg (one of the founders of IWOF) will be leading a small team from Nanaimo to visit the orphanage. Some of the important objectives of the trip will be inspecting the first home for 10 children, working on the development plan for the new site, and conducting a general health check on the children. To learn more about the trip or how you can contribute, please click here.
To follow the team's journey, and for exciting updates on the ground in the Congo, please keep a close eye on IWOF's website, and be sure to follow Grace Orphanage on Facebook and Instagram.
Meet the Children of Grace Orphanage...
Including Noela Germene, Grace Orphanage is currently home to 35 orphans, all of whom have been found abandoned and alone, in many cases under unfathomable circumstances. Learn more about the children of Grace Orphanage here.
We commit to keeping our fundraising expenses to a minimum and will ensure that your donations make it to the children. IWOF is 100% volunteer run.
Still To Fund...
While there has been significant progress since the start of 2017, including:
the final payment that was made for the land which will become the long-term home for Grace Orphanage;
the agriculture area was fenced and the first crop of cabbage and wild spinach was harvested;
the construction of the guardhouse was completed;
now the first small house for 10 children is under construction,
there is still a long way to go on our journey towards completion of the facility to house 60 orphans and ultimately, self-sufficiency for the orphanage.
With your continued support over the coming months, the remainder of the children's homes will be constructed. This will pave the way for the transition from the temporary housing situation which you have so graciously supported. The reading centre will be the next project that will benefit not only the children on site but also the widows and orphans of the immediate community. The centre will be used to teach basic literacy and give hope to these extremely poor neighbours. Finally, the wall surrounding the complex will be constructed, which is vitally important to keep the children and the facilities protected for years to come.
