As Thanksgiving weekend has just passed, we want to sincerely thank you all for your ongoing support over the years! Your contributions are making a huge impact in the lives of 35 war orphans in the Congo. Our goal extends beyond creating a safe, secure and loving environment for each child. We strive to ensure that they are educated, equipped and prepared to be contributing members of the community in the future. Support Grace Orphanage.
Johann Van Rensburg, IWOF President, provides an update on Grace Orphanage and construction progress at the new permanent facility for up to 60 orphans.
Construction of House #3 is underway. Here the crew is working away at building a solid foundation ensuring durability and protection from the elements for years to come.
With the first 2 homes completed, construction of the third home for 10 children has begun. So far, thanks to the generous support of our donors, $10,000 of the required $25,000 has been raised.
With the impending move to the new site, we hope to complete the third home by December 31. This will ensure that all 35 kids have a safe, secure place to call home. In order to do so, we need to raise another $15,000, so as we approach the holiday season, please partner with us to help Build A Home For The Holidays.
Congratulations to Grace Orphanage's First High School Graduate - Anna Mbilizi
When was Anna young, her father fell from a tree in the jungle while looking for fruit for the family to eat. As there were no doctors or medication her father died from his injuries. Sometime later, her mother was captured by rebels and taken, never to return. Anna was left alone and an unmarried male neighbor took her in. Anna was abused and ran away to live on the streets, without food, shelter or family. This was where Grace Ministries found her.
From an 8-year-old girl found on the street, lost, abused and without hope to a beautiful, confident young lady who passed her Provincial High School exam, excited for her future and looking at college options, this is just one of 35 stories of the lives being touched thanks to the generous support of our donors.
Back to School
The kids have returned to school following the summer holidays and are looking forward to taking another step forward with their academic results...
This past June, there was reason to celebrate as all of the children at Grace Orphanage passed their exams for the 2018-2019 school year. Considering just four years ago 15 of the children failed, this is remarkable progress! With the help of the after-school teachers, thanks to the support of our donors, the children are continuing to elevate their academic performance, setting them up for a brighter future.
Visiting The Orphanage
Jim MacMunn will be embarking on his third trip to Grace Orphanage, departing for 6 weeks on November 23. He is hoping to take along some much-needed supplies for the orphanage, including:
We commit to keeping our fundraising expenses to a minimum and will ensure that your donations make it to the children. IWOF is 100% volunteer-run.
Still to Fund...
There has been significant progress on the development of the new facility over the past number of months, including:
the first small house for 10 children was completed;
the large house for 18 children was completed;
the security wall and gates to provide secure access, necessary to keep the children and the facilities protected for years to come has been completed;
the agricultural area continues to yield impressive crops, providing not only nutritious food for the children, but also teaching them about responsibility, self-sustainability, and agriculture;
the first phase of the septic system has been installed;
the communal kitchen should be completed this week;
well drilling is underway, the water tank stand has been constructed and two 5,000 litre tanks have been purchased, with fresh water for both the orphanage and surrounding community expected later this month;
the foundation has been poured for the third house for 10 children;
and, solar installation has just begun.
However, there is still a long way to go on our journey towards completion of the facility to house up to 60 orphans and ultimately, self-sufficiency for the orphanage.
With your continued support over the coming weeks, the third children's home will be completed, paving the way for the transition from the temporary housing situation, which you have so graciously supported, to this permanent facility. From here, the construction of 2 additional homes will allow for more vulnerable children to be brought in under the care of Grace Orphanage, providing a path for a brighter future. A Reading Centre will be the next project that will benefit not only the children on-site, but also the widows and orphans of the immediate community. The centre will be used to teach basic literacy and give hope to these extremely poor neighbours.
