December 2016

Hosea's pig farming project is starting to grow. The piglets are doing well and he is adding to the herd.

Progress towards Sustainability

It is the goal of the Orphanage leadership team for the orphanage to be self-sustaining in 5 to 7 years. Part of this strategy is to farm pigs, chickens and to grow vegetables. Hosea is putting his agriculture degree to use by implementing the first phase, which is creating a pig farming project on a small scale to trial the feasibility of it. Ultimately the vision is not only for food production for the orphanage, but also as a source of revenue in an area where fresh produce is a scarcity.

The joy of getting a good report card and heartbreak when you did not pass the grade.

Education still remains a challenge

Although the Grace Orphanage children are all attending a good school in the area, the Congo school system is geared towards strong achievers. The concept of Special Learning Needs is not well known. Most of these children have experienced tremendous trauma in their young lives, which attributes to many learning challenges requiring additional attention. Grace Leadership hired a teacher at the orphanage to work with these children who are struggling. That means that, at the moment, 10 of the children are now receiving special tutoring after school. They are already making progress with the additional help.

Donate on behalf of family/friends as a Christmas gift this year!

Would you considered blessing a child this Christmas by donating to a worthy cause, as a Christmas gift on behalf of friends or family? Research shows that people are more fulfilled when giving rather than receiving. Please go to http://www.grace-orphanage.org/donate-now/ to make your donation and bless a child in need today (and be blessed yourself)!

Our Dream

Our dream is to purchase land (around 2 acres) and construct a main building with kitchen/dining room and six small houses (600 sq.ft.). Each small house will be home to 8 children and host parents. The compound will have a vegetable garden, chicken coops and pig pens to produce food for the orphanage, as well as sufficient to sell and help support living expenses. Read more...

Successful Fundraiser for a permanent home for the Orphanage

Thank you to Kristy and the team from Island Optimal Health and Moksha Yoga, and all the volunteers and donors! We are pleased to announce that our recent Party For a Purpose raised close to $26,000 towards the land purchase for the new home. (See Our Dream above for more details).

Rama Bardon

Born in Kilomoni, Rama’s mother became ill and they went to live with a neighbor whose family lived close to our orphanage. After some time our office was told that Rama’s mother had passed away. It was decided that we should take Rama into the care of Grace Ministries Children's Home. Rama’s vision is to become a bus driver. He is in grade 2 at primary school.

Riziki Jeanne

Born in Mauranvia village, Riziki’s mother and two brothers were killed when their village was attacked by rebels. The soldiers kidnapped Riziki but left her during the night. She was found by neighbors who cared for her even though they were destitute themselves. Riziki is now in grade 6 and in the care of Grace Ministries Children's Home. Riziki is now doing grade 6. Her vision is to become a pastor
