Greetings everyone!

Like all of you, I am praying for an end to this rain. If not, I know a guy named Noah and he's got room on his boat. But as we all know, the members for the Longhorn IFT will not allow a little rain spoil our parade! Many thanks to everyone who drove down to South Fort Worth last month for the meeting and tour of the Trinity River Distillery. Flights of whiskey, local BBQ, and fellowship made for an enjoyable evening for all.

November's meeting will take place in Addison, TX at the Blue Mesa Grill. It will be our pleasure to host Michele Perchonok from National IFT. Michele has held almost every position of leadership for the IFT including 7 times as Chair! We are very fortunate to be her host and I hope that we have a large turnout to show her how dedicated we are as the local IFT chapter.

Michele Perchonok, PhD, CFS, IFT President

Dr. Michele Perchonok, recently retired after working for 17 years at NASA Johnson Space Center as manager of the NASA Human Research Program (HRP) Program Science Management Office. Prior to holding that position, Michele was the HRP Advanced Food Technology Project Manager and the Shuttle Food System Manager.  Prior to joining NASA, Michele worked at Riviana Foods and the Quaker Oats Company Pet Food Division. 
Michele has published more than 25 articles and 2 book chapters. During her nearly 40 years of IFT membership, Michele has served IFT in over 30 volunteer opportunities, seven times as chair, and on the IFT Board of Directors. Her volunteer activities span Division, Section, and IFT Advisory Panels, Award Juries, and Task Forces.  Michele has also contributed to IFT in outreach activities by participating in IFT’s award winning first ‘A Day in the Life of a Food Scientist’ short film featuring NASA as well as participating as an IFT Communicator. Michele is an IFT Fellow, a Certified Food Scientist, and was awarded the Calvert L. Willey Distinguished Service Award in 2016.

Michele holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Brown University and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Food Science with minors in Nutritional Biochemistry and Marketing from Cornell University.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Longhorn IFT Supplier's Night! Even with all of the rain on Wednesday, we had a huge turnout with troopers who braved the cold and wet to play some friendly competition golf! And for the ones who did not go out to play golf, they had board games, hot cocoa, bloody mary's and endless coffee! 

Thank you to all of those who volunteered! We cannot have done it without all of the support that was provided. We are so thankful for all of our suppliers, volunteers, donation, time, effort, teamwork and so forth. All of the continued support really make the golf tournament and our Supplier's Night one-of-a-kind. 

A big special shout-out to our co-chairs: Donna Henry and Greg Hanks! Thank you so much for dedicating so much time, effort, and heart into setting up the Supplier's Night. Thank you Madalyn Thibodeaux and Janet Adams for stepping up to organize the golf tournament and being able to leverage all of our suppliers' to raise scholarship funds for our next generation in the food industry. Thank you Nitin Joshi for organizing the speakers and building our technical know-how. Thank you to Angela Hanks who helped create, edit, and test the Longhorn IFT app to make it run smoothly and efficiently. 

We are always open to feedback. The Longhorn IFT app has a "Surveys" section to ask about improvement, suggestions, etc. Suggestions can also be accessed online through HERE
