We mentioned in our last newsletter that the MBFOL Book Sales will now be held in our beautifully remodeled library.   The first 2016 Book Sale is Saturday, March 5th from 10 am to 5 pm. The sale will be open to “Members Only” from 9am-10 am, and you can always join or renew at the door!
Don't forget:  The Book Sale is at the LIBRARY!

Happy 1-Year Anniversary!!
March 1st marks the one-year anniversary of the Grand Opening celebration of our newly remodeled Morro Bay Library.  The volunteers, donors, staff and Board of Directors of the Morro Bay Friends of the Library put in thousands of hours and dollars to make this dream a reality.  The Remodel Project had it's "official" start in the fall of 2012 when the Board of Directors interviewed and hired architect Shana Reiss of Reiss Design Studio to design our new space.  However, in the many years leading up to that time, the Friends had been accumulating generous donations and book sale funds from hundreds of Friends donors and customers, totaling over $250,000.  Once the project was underway, fundraising efforts ramped up, and the Friends succeeded in reaching their $500,000 goal.

The renovation of the 6,500 sq. ft. interior space took place over a stretch of 6 months, during which time the library continued to serve our community from the temporary (and much smaller) location at 525 Harbor St.  Even with limited space and services, the library staff continued their tradition of excellent service and circulated an average of 10,000 items each month!

In partnership with the County of San Luis Obispo, and with the continued assistance of Shana Reiss, the project finished on-time and on-budget - a miraculous accomplishment indeed!  We are so proud of how this new space turned out.  It welcomes hundreds of visitors each day and provides a community gathering space that is worthy of the quality of our community.

What better way to celebrate this anniversary than with a Book Sale?!  And thanks to this renovated space, we are now bringing our Book Sales back to the library.  We hope you'll be able to join us on March 5, but if you can't make it that day, you can always come shop in the MBFOL Bookstore which is in the Library and open during all library hours.

Thank you once again to everyone in our community who played a part, big or small, in our Remodel Project!

SLO MakerSpace
The San Luis Obispo County Library has teamed up with SLO MakerSpace to offer a unique opportunity to library cardholders.  SLO MakerSpace is a community resource dedicated to education and creativity. It is an open, collaborative machine/wood/ electronics shop and craft center where one can build projects; teach and take classes; and build networks connecting with local people and resources.  Their 5,000+ sq. ft. facility is located in the Pacific Coast Center at the intersection of Madonna Rd. and South Higuera in San Luis Obispo.

As a library cardholder, you can schedule up to 15 hours per week at SLO MakerSpace (kids 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult).  Access for library cardholders is Tuesday-Friday
4pm-7pm, and Saturday 10am-1pm.

A few of its many resources include:  a pottery studio, 3D printing machines and 3D scanning, an electronics lab, woodworking tools, metalworking tools, power tools and hand tools of all shapes and sizes.
