Get involved: Participate in a research project

Gentec partner, the Alberta Agrisystems Living Lab, is looking for beef, forage and cropping producers interested in partnering with researchers to implement or adapt certain management practices on their operations and measure productivity, profitability and sustainability impacts.

Participants will receive: personalized cost of production report; technical information such as soil mapping, forage yields, crop rotation recommendations; and compensation annually for providing their time and expertise for surveys, workshops, and interviews. The results will help direct government policy makers and help to demonstrate the value of the work producers do every day. There is no cost to attend but registration is required. The value of Gentec... "In their words"

In our September 2022 newsletter, Cherie Copithorne-Barnes summarized why she elected to participate as a member of Gentec’s Management Advisory Board, and how it was the logical next step based on her work with the CRSB in a short video.

Tthis month's edition of In Their Words is a double feature with Gentec MAB member Sean McGrath and Gentec International Industry and Scientific Advisory Board member Tim Nelson, a serial entrepreneur in the agriculture space with experience in technology development and application in Canada and internationally.  They both describe how and why Gentec is a good investment of their time, and benefits industry.  Viewing time 2:09 mins.

Graduate Certificate in Bioinformatics at ULethbridge

The Graduate Certificate in Bioinformatics at the ULethbridge is accepting applications for Spring/Summer 2023. This is a 6-month, course-based program delivered in the evening or in flexible formats and includes a significant component of hands-on work. Participants may complete the program in person or by remote synchronous attendance. For more information, see here and here.

"Inexpensive whole-genome sequences and new phenotyping technologies give us a wealth of information to improve livestock breeding and management," says Gentec biostatistician Paul Stothard. "However an important challenge is finding the students and staff with the skills to manage and analyze the huge data sets. I recommend the program to the students taking my graduate-level bioinformatics course at UAlberta as a valuable opportunity to delve further into the relevant theories, methods and tools of bioinformatics.
