Harm Reduction Gains Support in Chicago
Dear Friends and Colleagues,

In our April newsletter, we described the clergy visit CNDP organized to Vancouver, Canada, the site of the only  supervised safe-injection facility in North America.  We are delighted here to tell about the way one of the participants, inspired by what he observed, is now reaching to colleagues, including Congressman Danny Davis, bringing the harm reduction message to Chicago.  Project Coordinator Rev. Saeed Richardson reports on activity thus far.

Symposium Calls for Harm Reduction and Treatment

Two influential faith leaders from the south and west sides joined forces last Wednesday to build a base of support in Chicago for harm reduction rather than arrests and jail as the response to drug abuse and addiction.

Bishop Claude Porter, Founder of Proviso Leyden Community Council for Community Action (left), and Chief Apostle William McCoy, Senior Pastor and Founder of Brothers Keeper Outreach Church (right), with Congressman Danny Davis, hosted a symposium on “Challenges and Options” for a new drug policy featuring the voices of diverse individuals from law enforcement, government, health care, and policy advocacy.  Over 50 community residents were present.
