PRWIN SPONSORSHIP DAY

Last month, PRWIN hosted a Sponsorship Day to recognize our valuable sponsors in our community. The field gathering showcased a red maple reforestation site in Huron Township, that offers red maple seedlings and a small mixture of white spruce. The location is a small area of retired cash crop land that is near a river bank. We are proud of the landowner who had the vision to plant a red maple seedling site.

This year, over 6,000 project seedlings were planted at reforestation sites. The seedlings included a variety of red maple, white cedar, white spruce, Norway spruce, white oak, black walnut and black cherry. Thank you to our PRWIN Directors David Grant, Murray Jamieson, Don Farrell, Melanie Moulton and volunteer Connor Dixon for planting the reforestation sites.

Our annual Seedling Program provided over 11,000 seedlings. The selection of seedlings for this year included white cedar, white spruce, Norway spruce, red pine, tamarack, silver maple, red oak, white oak, black cherry and black walnut.

Sponsorship and donations from Nuclear Waste Management Organization, Ontario Power Generation, Enbridge, K2 Wind, B.M. Ross and Associates, Baywood Interiors Millwork and Joan Storrey - Storrey Stables supported our 2021 programming. Thank you to our sponsors, donations and our hard working directors and volunteers for assisting with our community programs. Also, thank you to Queen Street Eats for the delicious desserts at our Sponsorship Day.

SPRING MAINTENANCE OF
RAIN GARDEN

Jim & Christine Roberts and PRWIN Director Murray Jamieson volunteered their time and efforts to tidy up the rain garden located beside the Ripley Library. The Robert's expertise in horticulture is an asset to maintain the rain garden. They have planted a native shrub from Smeltzer's Garden Centre to spruce up the rain garden. Thank you to the Robert's and our many volunteers that continue to help our community projects!

We love our community! We are well known for taking care of our watershed and have developed a very approachable relationship with landowners. We welcome projects from local landowners. Berms, tree planting, cattle crossing and wetlands are the majority of project requests.

Landowners allow us to help them manage in ground projects by working together to secure funding and co-ordinate contractors. It is a great opportunity!

Private landowner participation is vital to the success of our watershed.
